I bought a refurb laptop in august before leaving for grad school and in the last week or so internet explorer has been constantly locking for what appears to be no good reason. It freezes on lots of different types of websites while the computer is doing nothing but surfing the net. I've run antivirus and antispyware and both turned up nothing. Any ideas or possible solutions (aside from Firefox, et al.)?

anything in common with these websites, such as flash or java content?

No, i really don't notice any common link between the pages that it locks up on. However, if it locks up on a specific page, it will continue to lock up on that page for a little while afterwards if I return to it.

Why are you so hardcore about IE? My suggestion is firefox.

Im not really hardcore at all about IE and I am in fact now using firefox. At this point, its just an annoying problem that I would like to know the source of.

Update the java engine. That's what the problem was for me. Also the .net. Have you done all of our windows updates?
