USUALLY when people get money orders its because they DON'T have checks.

^^^^^ people don't get money orders because they don't have checks - they get money orders to pay for stuff from people who don't accept checks. Many businesses don't accept personal checks because it's not "up front" payment. i.e. you can write a check even if you don't have the money, so the receiver of the check (like your landlord) is SOL when your check bounces.

A money order, on the other hand, is as good as cash. The buyer has to provide money up front like cash or debit card, to pay for it. Therefore, it would make no sense for places that sell MOs to accept personal checks.

it doesnt, but supposedly a (very) few places do take checks for MO. this is why many sellers will only take postal money orders.
