I've posted on here about this car before...I finally got it to a mechanic, so here is a brief idea of the situation:It's a 98 Ford Escort SE...it wouldn't start, so I had to get it towed to a mechanic...he says that the fuel injectors aren't injecting fuel into the cylinders. He replaced the cam sensor and they still wont inject. It has plenty of fuel pressure (fuel pump is working). He's thinking maybe the computer is blown? Perhaps it's a relay? We aren't sure at this point because my mechanic is looking at it on and off in his spare time, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with something like this before and could give me some advice? I was told to try the computer chip...does anyone know where the computer chip is located in this particular type of car?

Holy shit.Find yourself a new mechanic and don't listen to everybody else who's giving you advice. What about spark? Has yer man checked to see if waveform is present at the cam position sensor? Any error codes at all? Current to the injector wiring harness (the ecm switches grounds on the injectors)? Is this a real shop or is this somebody's backyard? He might know what he's doing, but you don't describe it as such.

THEY ALREADY CIRCLED THE PROBLEM FOR YA

You can get a new PCM from advance for a little over $100 if that turns out to be the problem.

the mechanic is looking at it for free and I have another car, so it's no big hurry or anything. He's only really discovered the problem and tried replacing the cam sensor as of yet, but if I could get a heads up on something to try, I could always go do it myself (my car is sitting out where I could get to it). The mechanic is cool about doing this stuff for free, so I don't want to be pushy.

Yes, the car has spark. He said he put some kind of machine on it...I can't remember what he called it. A new PCM will cost between $140 - $200.[Edited on October 10, 2006 at 4:30 PM. Reason : BTW...anyone know where the PCM is located?]

Should be on the firewall

correct me if Im wrong, but if the fuel injectors are not firing this would show itself in the form of a CEL light throwing an error code in a scanner?
10/11/2006 11:42:00 AM
Nope. Not necessarily so. Could be the injector driver portion of the ECM (or PCM or ECU or just a plain ol' got-damn COMPUTER) is bad.
10/11/2006 11:56:19 AM
the battery has been disconnected while i was replacing the alternator and doing other work...therefore no CEL codes to go from.

I have replaced everything and tested everything in my truck and nothing has fixed my miss. It is either a vacuum leak or pcm failure.
10/13/2006 12:27:10 AM
fixed...crank position sensor was blown
