http://www.driveev.com/jeepev/home.phpWhich project is better implemented...MaximaDrivers or this guys? In addition, did any of you do this at a young age? Also, how much work do you think this kid did himself and how much did his pops do and let his kid put his name on it for the "fame" (getting into a great college, scholarships, etc)?

I guess he does.

not hatin or nothing but homeboy spent 10k in parts not including the jeep and his time. and it only has 35 mile range, for 10k he coud have bought prius/insight.

He built it himself.Thats the point.

my biggest deal is that it only goes 40 miles or so. if i drop 10k on some shit, i expect it to go farther than 40 miles.

^^^ He should factor those costs into the cost/per mile. Good for him for taking on the project tho. -- Dave

Why didn't he find some way to build some kind/type of alternator in to recharge the battery like we have today? or am i missing some reason of why that wouldn't work in this application?

^^I wasn't marveling at the complexity of the task, I was marveling at the level of detail - even if I'd managed to convert a car to electricity, I doubt I'd think to change all the lights from incandescent to LED...

10k+his labor(18 months workin 15hr/week@7$ after taxes)=$7560+original value of the jeep = a prius/insightlike i said it's cool and all, impressive that he did it at such a young age, but it's niether radical nor practical...[Edited on October 16, 2006 at 10:56 PM. Reason : .]

Not practical? The point of this thread, is despite all the bravado from the Garage, and all the ball wagging by the mechanics in here, I have yet to see anyone match this in fabrication outside of some nig rigging.I know there are some guys doing real fab work on the dirt crawlers, but they don't post too much, and this really isn't a shot at them. Mostly just all the big talkers that don't really do shit.
