i've decided to move on the the 21st century and get a cell phonethis is mostly due to the fact that i know too many people with 336 and 704 area codes that live in raleigh now, and it's gettin irritating calling these people long distanceis it possible to get my bell south land line phone number transferred to my cell phone?...i am planning on ridding myself of the landline
10/7/2006 6:14:48 PM

10/7/2006 6:16:10 PM

10/7/2006 6:16:16 PM
unbeleivable
10/7/2006 6:17:47 PM

10/7/2006 6:20:44 PM

10/7/2006 6:26:38 PM

10/7/2006 6:28:45 PM
landlines are so retro
10/7/2006 6:28:46 PM
too bad people get made about parody threads in the lounge
10/7/2006 6:33:43 PM
I had one for work in the mid-90's, then abstained until 2003. Had the same phone since then.
10/7/2006 7:25:27 PM
Yeah, I don't understand these people who get a new phone every nine months or whatever. I got my first one in 2000 and has it until '02, then didn't have one until early in '05.
10/7/2006 7:38:08 PM
i've never really needed a cell phone to surviveif you can't find me at home or at work, then maybe you don't need to find me THE FOUNDING FATHERS DIDN'T NEED THEM, ANYHOWso from what nastoute has said, i guess it is possible
10/7/2006 8:35:12 PM
^ Yeah though you may have to go with bellsouth's cell phone provider...dunno who tha tis.
10/7/2006 8:42:45 PM
isn't cingular just bellsouth in disguise?
10/7/2006 8:44:47 PM
Ya, you'll probably have to go through BellSouth (Cingular) to keep your #. I never had a cell phone either, until last month. I work very close to home & if I'm out, people could reach me at my wife's cell. There really was little point for me to have a cell, so why waste money on one. You can do just fine without a cell phone, in many cases. I'm moving much further away though, so I figured I finally could use one.
10/7/2006 8:50:03 PM
^^did you see me at the grocery store the other day?i didnt know if you'd either a) remember me or b) say hey if i said hey, so i didnt put it in spottings[Edited on October 7, 2006 at 8:50 PM. Reason : harris teeter at like 1am]
10/7/2006 8:50:05 PM
^^yeah that's pretty much the same boat i was in except now everyone's area codes are all over the place^i dunno, i wear blinders for the most part when i'm out in public
10/7/2006 8:57:46 PM
my cell phones only last for about 2 years and then they break
10/7/2006 11:16:58 PM
markoYOU ARE MY HEROI totally agree with this senitment and I have a cell which is for emergencies only. It is huge just one step above the battery pack phone Zack Morris had.
10/8/2006 1:06:53 AM
i feel hip here in sweden cuz i dont have a cell phone and everyone does. i'm all like psssh i'm past that
10/8/2006 2:37:01 AM
I didn't get a phone until two years ago. I thought I was the last one.
10/8/2006 4:52:36 AM
don't dooo it
10/8/2006 9:38:10 AM
i know a guy who doesnt have a cell phone and i dont know if he will anytime soon
10/8/2006 9:38:14 AM
Anybody can transfer the landline #. Its not restricted to just Bellsouth cell or anything. ANY number can be transferred, unless its a very special reserved number. It takes longer to port a landline than another cellphone, (24-48 hours) but I have done several landline #s to customers that came in and got cellphones and we had no problem.
10/8/2006 9:39:23 AM
You're such a rebel Marcus. That's so hot.
10/8/2006 9:39:28 AM
if you're just looking to save money by not having a long distance bill then it's probably cheaper to go with VoIP ... we've had Vonage for 4 years and it's only $25/month[Edited on October 8, 2006 at 9:51 AM. Reason : Let me refer you and I think we can both get 2 free months ...]
10/8/2006 9:49:22 AM
If you do have to go with Cingular to keep your number, I'd suggest just going somewhere else (Verizon) and getting a new one. Cingular sucks.Lowest dropped calls? Yep, it's hard to drop a call when you can't get signal to make one in the first place...
10/8/2006 1:51:19 PM
from what i can tell, most cell phone service is sketchythey got allllll that crap now, skinny phones, video games, cameras, mp3 playersbut reception...the MAIN IMPORTANT THING... still clips in and out and is flaky
10/8/2006 1:57:21 PM
I rarely have reception problems with my Verizon phone. When I had Cingular, I had to go outside my dorm pretty much every time I wanted to make a call. Granted, it does depend on where you live, but in Raleigh I should not have had that problem.

THAT'S THE TICKET STR8thanks a bunch
10/8/2006 2:31:31 PM
how have you maintained any sort of a social life without a cell phone up to this point?
10/8/2006 3:21:08 PM
haha are you kidding?i mean, before the damned things were mainstay in the late 90s, people somehow managed to socialize without them...we're all proof that our parents somehow had babies without having to have cell phones to fuckit's not like i'm living like the unibomber and only write letters to people...i have a landline, roadrunner and an automobile[Edited on October 8, 2006 at 3:32 PM. Reason : hahahahaha]
10/8/2006 3:25:53 PM
dont lie, we all know you have no social life.
10/8/2006 3:51:37 PM
big problem
10/8/2006 4:25:37 PM
10/8/2006 7:37:58 PM
it's kind of nice not having a cell phone. you don't have to worry about losing it or carrying it around, or charging it.although sometimes you really need to make a call and that sucks too
10/9/2006 6:38:01 AM
10/9/2006 7:16:14 AM
ditch bellsouth and get VoIP so there is never any long distance charges. ive got packet8(19.99/month). their network is almost never down.
10/9/2006 9:27:56 AM
marko used to ride around with a cage of carrier pigeons in his trunkthat was his cell phone
10/9/2006 9:32:10 AM
If this makes you feel better, I know quite a few people who don't have cell phones.
10/9/2006 10:42:02 AM
i do too. they live in amish villages.
10/9/2006 12:09:00 PM
I don't own a cellphone for 2 reasons1) If you can't find me at home or work there is a reason. Leave a fucking message on my answer machine. 2) It's another thing that I'd have to pay for and get lost/stolen/broken. I prefer my land line.
10/9/2006 12:14:34 PM
not having one cuz you really dont need it is one thing, but dont fall into that "im cooler than this cell phone thing" it's like not driving on the highway cuz everyone else is does.for people that leave their house every now and then, and need/want to talk to people sometimes, how can you justify not having a mobile phone?
10/9/2006 12:18:06 PM
cell phones are great for emergencies
10/9/2006 12:23:58 PM
I had not had a land line for almost two years when I got tired of all of my relatives and friends telling me to get one (my cell is long distance). So I went and hooked up a land line about a month ago and no one calls it. Everyone still calls my cell. I'm thinking I'm going to get rid of the landline again.
