vista doesn't work with dual monitors on nvidia 7900gt[Edited on October 7, 2006 at 10:41 PM. Reason : ]

how bout the radeon x1800?
10/8/2006 1:53:17 AM
probably a dumb question, but can I dual boot this? don't want to fuck up my xp pro install if I can help it.
10/8/2006 4:47:12 PM
im just putting it on a different hard drive, and booting to that
10/8/2006 5:58:16 PM
^ yea i was thinkin of doin that myself
10/8/2006 6:16:29 PM
When I tried it with RC1, I was unable to dual-boot Windows XP Pro and Vista (different boot loader)...There might be some 3rd Party stuff out there to allow it, but I haven't found it. I sure hope that they fix for the final release, as many people will want that capability...Another option all together is to completely abandon Microsoft and get a Mac...Leopard is going to be awesome!!! But that is just one man's opinion
10/9/2006 1:49:23 AM
^what are you smoking? i've been dual booting xp/vista for monthsbtw, if you haven't gotten it, the link is dead, it seems they've reached the 50,000 limit already, but i'm sure ya'll can find mirrors [Edited on October 9, 2006 at 8:02 PM. Reason : .]
10/9/2006 7:57:02 PM
i'm gettin it off bittorrent
10/9/2006 8:02:45 PM
^^ details plz. Any decent guides out there? Specifically, any for Thinkpads? T series? T60?
10/9/2006 11:07:48 PM
I got a copy of it. going to put it on my screw around pc. I wonder if my TV turner will work on it.
10/9/2006 11:24:09 PM
got a copy, wont get a chance to fuck with it until saturday
10/10/2006 12:24:13 AM
i did a new clean install on a 2nd drive (would act the same if it was on a 2nd partition) and the new boot loader recognized xp and setup the boot.ini to ask which one to boot into i didn't have to configure a thing (although later i did set the default to xp and changed the timing) but you shouldn't need a guide to do that
10/10/2006 12:26:53 AM
That new internet explorer keeps crashing on me too But i'm sure it'll work itself out.
10/10/2006 1:55:54 AM
I'm going to try installing it onto my USB hard drive...since my BIOS recognizes it at startup, it should not be a problem....
10/10/2006 12:55:07 PM
^that is going to suck and it wont work anyway most likely. I dont think the windows installer supports USB and removable drives.[Edited on October 10, 2006 at 1:45 PM. Reason : .]

beta supported dual monitors with my ati cardI'm about to go to RC2. I downloaded it. Do I have to burn to dvd and clean install? Or is there an update of some sort?
10/11/2006 12:32:53 AM
^^ uh, why would that be a limiting factor? I have an 80 gig 7200 rpm drive, and I've done this before with mac osx and several linux distros. But yeah I doubt the windows bootloader will recognize it, maybe I'll use prebootloader to get it onto the external drive first.
10/11/2006 7:14:31 AM
you know, with Vista, it seems like all they really did was increase the requirements, delay or pull any feature announced that justified the increase in requirements, and make windows wobbly... what exactly is the reason to upgrade again?

10/11/2006 8:19:58 AM
10/11/2006 12:38:54 PM
i see what ya did there
10/11/2006 12:45:59 PM
yeah. I'm really starting to think that Vista is going to require most users to get a new computer. All these dells with 512mb of ram just won't run it completely.
10/11/2006 9:20:20 PM
it's a matter of how much of the new "shiny" you want. if you don't care about the looks, then you don't need a brand new PC.
10/11/2006 9:21:53 PM
anybody try it on an ancient systemim trying to see what the real requirements are just to have it operational and not slow
10/14/2006 7:05:00 PM
I have it running on a 2.66 P4 533 mhz with 780 megs of ram and a 5200 fx card. Runs fine but can't get aero to start.
10/14/2006 9:29:57 PM
I'm running it comfortably, if a tad slowly, in a Parallels virtual machine on a MacBook Pro. Generic "video card," 512 MB RAM, and I gave it an 18 GB HD. No Aero, of course. My guess is that you'll really need 128 MB of video RAM and 1 GB of standard RAM to make it function comfortably.
10/14/2006 11:04:55 PM
the minimun for radeon cards is 9250, im not sure about nvidia, mines running on p4 2.6, 512, 128mb radeon 9250, no aero, but im gonna upgrade the video cardi think it will run fine on even old systems without all the fancy stuff
10/15/2006 12:59:06 AM
it'll probablyrun okay on most older machines. just make sure those video drivers are kept up-to-date, and that your video card supports newer directx bits. from what i've seen, microsoft has baked in a lot more graphical bits than before, so it may well justify the price of doing some hardware upgrading.and while i'm thinking about it, vista runs beautifully via Boot Camp on my MBP. Aero Glass is on-par with Mac OS X, look-wise. jury is still out on functionality.
10/15/2006 1:10:15 AM
im so glad they fucking dropped GDI in favor of a real, accelerated directdraw gui.it will run sans Aero on any chipset out there just fine.
10/15/2006 1:09:06 PM
^^^ oops, i meant the minimum radeon chipset for aero its 9500

10/16/2006 6:57:15 AM
^^haha pwnt^have you burned the hair off your legs with that MBP yet?
10/16/2006 10:00:40 AM
how does this work with the new quadcore server titan xeon turbo chips?
10/16/2006 10:38:16 AM
^^^ Really? Parallels kind of sucks then doesn't it?
10/16/2006 12:07:51 PM
Parallels wasn't meant for running video-accelerated stuff. Also consider that they've only just released their first version during the summer, so it's not reached it's full potential. My whole point before was to state that Vista works okay in a VM. Since most VM's aren't going to offer the installed OS a fully-accelerated environment, it's a comfortable approximation of what it'd be like to run on a "slower" machine.I'm not saying any of this to claim that Parallels is better or worse for this. Merely that it was possible. Geez.
10/16/2006 12:46:15 PM
I didn't say you were trying to claim anything. Calm down.
10/16/2006 1:20:33 PM
nerd fight!
10/16/2006 4:16:00 PM
I know you are but what am I!
10/16/2006 5:08:34 PM
does RC2 fix the directx problems where playing games on Vista is no longer laggy with higher graphics settings?
10/29/2006 4:06:21 PM
pre rtm is out
10/29/2006 6:40:01 PM
Vista Ultimate is in route to my house....bitches.
10/29/2006 7:07:43 PM
so did they stop the beta releases? I was thinking about messing with it again, but I don't see it for download on their site
11/3/2006 12:18:54 AM
believe i read somewhere that they stopped the downloads of vista except for certain ppl
11/3/2006 12:21:03 AM
I think i downloaded this a while ago, can anyone confirm the file name and size:vista_5744.16384.061003-1945_x86fre_client-lrmcfre_en_dvdand is 2.49GB?
11/3/2006 10:59:05 AM
You can download RC1 here. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspxRC2 is available to only a certain group of people such as MCP's and MSDN subscribers, I think.
11/3/2006 12:34:38 PM
you can get RC2 on bittorrent
