I have an unnatural fear of dentists from being young and having very mean people work on my mouth. Lots of pain involved. So now that I'm older and pay for my own dentist I wanted to find somewhere that I believed they actually cared about how it felt and what was done. I also wanted a dentist who knew what they were talking about and could speak clear english. Dr Ferzli of cary (http://www.smilesofcary.com) is the absolute best dentist I have ever encountered. I hate dentists. In fact I hate them so much I didn't go. I brushed 2-3 times a day, flossed and used flourine wash. Well.. one of my teeth broke and it freaked me out. Turns out metal fillings don't expand and contract at the same rate as your teeth and over years holes are opened up. Combine that with the fact that I used to grind my teeth and formed cracks... walla..I went to my dad's dentist and she said I would need a crown (fuck!) I also found out that I had 9 other cavities which were all under older metal fillings (sonova bitch). I came back 2 days to start dealing with them and walked in the door and heard "Ow you fucking bitch, you missed again". I turned around and left lol. Now we can all recognize that I have an unnatural fear of dentists from my childhood. This did not help matters. In searching for a new dentist I saw Dr Ferzli's website and sedation dentistry. He does normal and sedation. I went in expecting overpriced stuff but they were just as cheap if not cheaper than other dentists in the area. I sat there for an hour with him as he explained the state of each of my teeth and my options. What he CAN do, what he suggests, what would look best, what would last longer and what we be most functional etc. He didn't have to do this. I asked him about sedation dentistry and he explained exactly what would happen and what I would feel like and the after affects etc. He also stated directly that most insurance companies do not cover it. I had about $3000 worth of work that needed to be done. All of my fillings needed to be replaced, cavities removed and filled in, and one tooth that needed either a inlay or a crown. I was like "what's an inlay". He explained that as long as a tooth has most of it's structure one can use an inlay instead of grinding down a tooth and placing a fake cover on it. Think of it as a lego piece that they make on site. He even had a model. As a note, there are 400 plaques on the wall for this guy. He's rated nationally and awarded locally... it's amazing. Do research on him you'll be amazed. I wanted to go ahead and get all the work done. Ever last bit. I also wanted to go for sedation as well. He explained that he charges $300 for sedation dentistry BUT it covers up to 4 additional visits. This is completely different than any other dentist in the area. CALL and ask. You'll see. Well I went in today at 7am... I was aware but not really there. I could answer his questions I could respond and I knew what was going on the entire time... but I don't remember most of it. It was totally worth it. The only downside is that you need someone to bring you to and from the dentist and watch over you for a couple hours after. Generally you'll hit the bed and sleep like me. Their offices will submit your insurance for you (many sedation dentists dont), but if you pay up front they give you an extra 5% off. They still submit your insurance but instead of them getting the check you get it. So I did that. Saved me $150. If you are in need of ANYTHING from basic cleaning to fillings... these guys are INCREDIBLE. There wasn't a mean person there and Dr Ferzli is one of the most sociable intelligent people I've ever known. Bonus, if you say that Chad Stinner sent you you'll get an extra $25 off. I would get money too if I needed anymore work but I don't and really couldn't care. I get NOTHING from this promotion. http://www.smilesofcary.comThank you Dr Ferzli.[Edited on October 6, 2006 at 2:01 AM. Reason : ! I need to learn how to spell words]

Dana McCall is my choice. He's a great guy and a great dentist. He's also close to the NCSU area for those who care (about 1 mile from the Jones Franklin Rd exit off 440).http://danamccall.com/Oh, he also runs the must-read website for locals: http://www.raleighing.com/

It's cool Bridget, I guess looking back at it I look more likme a fanboy, but I dread the dentist. This was the best experience I've ever had. Just wanted to share. Thus why I'm like, look him up, do your own research etc.

^^ call them and ask them if they are in the network but not listed yet (happens a lot). Give them your insurance provider and if they aren't they might check to see if they can be. Almost no work on your part. Charles Ferzli462-3350

Glad to hear that you found a dentist - I hate going to the dentist, but I wouldn't say that I'm to the point of needing sedation (far from it, actually). I suppose I'm just blessed with a good set of teeth (and loads of fluorine as a child). The "walla" made me giggle. "Voila" for future reference.

I go toy Lane and Associates ... they have several offices in the area. The newest one's in NRal across from the old Books-a-million that closed down. They will also do sedation, but I didn't need it ... they used some orajel and numbed the gums before going in with the needle and they were very slow doing it so it didn't hurt. I just laid back with my headphones and blanket and actually kind-of dozed off while they were working I'm happy with it, two root canals later.http://www.lanedds.com/

^ they actually wound up being almost $400 more expensive when I was price checking. I don't know anything else. Ferzli is most probably a smaller office. I think he has a total of 10 people working there. I liked the fact they knew me by name when I walked in again.
