Just watched it in its entirety last night, I thought it was really good.Pacino and De Niro were badass. But the movie covered so much so quickly I missed some things that happened in between.Like when young Vito kills Don Fanucci "The Black Hand" I realize no one has control of the neighborhood but he goes straight to being called Don himself in the next flashback...And with everything going on with Michael Corleone, it was hard to keep up with all the backstabbing and who was have who killed and whatnot...what did the rest of you that have seen this think of it and how was it compared to the first?

I agree, one of the best movies everthe Hyman Roth stuff is what I found most confusing, along with Fredo being stupidI did like seeing the young Tessio and young Clemenza so, is the third worth watching?

It took me a couple times watching it through to really appreciate the first one.I just picked up Part II and haven't had the chance to sit down and watch it in its entirety yet.

haha i've owned the dvd collection for almost 2 years and i haven't watched III yet.personally i like The Godfather part 1 best, but after rewatching part II i like it more. II definitely has more layers of action, betrayal, business, etc. its definitely a lot more ambitious in terms of story telling and you have to give coppola credit for excellent final product.

I bought Part 2 about two weeks ago and finally had time to watch it all last nightI am going to get Part 3 soon^ I figured that is basically what happened, but why after Fanucci told Vito he had balls, and he would find him some work did Vito kill him?because he knew he could take over what he had control of? or because he insulted him or something?

Part 3 is terrible and never should have been made, I would say you're better off renting it. It's the Rocky 5 of the Godfather series.

i think vito was testing fanucci when he went in and was going to short him the money he "owed". he wanted to see what fanucci would do and if he could be pushed around. everyone up until then had just given in to fanucci (that we see) and by showing just a little bit of resistance vito learns that fanucci is not as tough as everyone thinks he is, including fanucci.by killing fanucci, vito might also have been standing up for all the other italians who were getting pushed around. vito saw that he had the power to do something about it, so he did.but i think taking over the neighborhood was a bi-product. remember when the vendor gives him the orange? vito was suprised by the gift. the word probably got around that he was the one who killed fanucci. the italian immigrants who were formerly controlled by fanucci are introduced to a new strong figure/leader and they automatically put him in power.i'd like to add that the lighting in this movie is FANTASTIC, especially in the corleone's vegas lake house when shit really starts hitting the fan.[Edited on September 29, 2006 at 9:25 AM. i did notice the lighting techniques were on point..as for the Italians respecting him for taking down Fanucci, id buy that... and i know the part you are talking about where the market guy is like "I dont want any money, take it"Vito responds with one of the more respectable things he was known for telling him he never forgets a favor, which made me think its why people allowed him to get into power as he did and why they respected him so much...Some of my favorite quotes,

When a plot against the Emperor failed... the plotters were always given a chance... to let their families keep their fortunes. Right?

While I like one the best, two has the best ending of any movie ever made.

ok Michael had Roth killed, Fredo killed on the boat, and did the other guy kill himself in the bathtub?I never really figured that part out, I know his brother came to the court or whatever, and the Tom went and visited him on the base and they had a long talk that I didnt really pick up on what they were talking about...but you like that better than Michael having the heads of the 4 families killed and his asshole brother-in-law?

III is not that bad...it's just not that good compared to the first 2, which are two of the best movies every in my opinion.and....READ THE BOOK. The book is AMAZING. Mario Puzo is great and I've read all of his books. Also read The Sicilian...better than the Godfather in my opinion. Too bad they made a shitty movie out of it.

also that The Godfather game for XBox360, XBox, PS2 whatever is really good...not only is it a fun game...but it also has multiple clips from the 1st movie, as well as the whole plot of the game going along with the first flick...some of the gameplay actually gives you another perspective on some of the scenes, which helped me at least understand some of the more vague/confusing parts
