Yo which one should I get when I eventually do?

Depends on what you want top speed? low end? What are you going to do with it stunt it cruze on it race it? Go ride them both and see what you think dont ask ppl what one you should get. there not the one riding it. That is like asking what kinda toothpaste to get.

If this is your first bike, V-Strom, hands down. But you'd better off with a GS500 or SV650 than either of them. You might want to check out the new Kawasaki Ninja 650R too. Seems like a good starter bike from what I've seen.

i've had a 00 r6, and a 00 sv650 (same vtwin in vstorm i think)

I sat on a V-Strom at the dealer. Seemed like it would be a comfy touring bike.

I don't really see how this is a question though. You either want speed/handling or you want a comfy ride more. We can't decide for you.

buy fj40s, that shit is clean - much better looking than a v-strom....

there are a ton of things to consider, many of them have been mentioned in previous posts-
I'd pick the R6 of the two, IMO the v-strom sux. have you had a motorcycle before?

Personally, I would pick an SV650 or a 650 Vstrom. I have a weakness for Japanese v-twins, and I really like how they handle in general.
