how do you go about getting prescription pain medicine for cramps??? i know back in the day, my mom had some that she got specially for that time of the month, but i don't know how she got them. i could call her, but i guess i'm lazy so i thought i'd ask you guys instead.
9/25/2006 8:04:35 AM
call the gyno - then your mom - then when that fails ask here ]
9/25/2006 8:06:37 AM
i was just trying NOT to pick up the phone this morningi hate having to leave my desk to make a call, and i'm certainly not making that call at my desk
9/25/2006 8:11:17 AM
make an appt and talk to your doctor
9/25/2006 8:22:15 AM
ok, so obviously the OB-GYN needs to prescribe it. can i talk to her (or her nurse) on the phone or do i have to actually go see her?? cuz i know she can call in prescriptions to whichever pharmacy i use.
9/25/2006 8:24:16 AM
i know who might know the answer to all of these questions...hrmmm
9/25/2006 8:27:45 AM
yes i'm gonna call the doctor...sheesh, i just didn't wanna have to call, cuz you gotta leave a message and wait for some nurse to call you back and it just takes forever [Edited on September 25, 2006 at 8:30 AM. Reason : t]
9/25/2006 8:30:08 AM
um, you would have to talk to them anyway to get the perscription. just putting off the inevitable, wasting more time. good job!

Cramps ... or taking a few minutes to a hold of somebody?Cramps ... or taking a few minutes to a hold of somebody?Cramps ... If they were that bad, you would have already taken some action by this point and wouldn't be posting here. For a helpful suggestion, call mom, doctor and then Google.
9/25/2006 10:24:17 AM
Go make an appointment with the doctor- better safe than sorry and it will be worth it, trust me
9/25/2006 10:33:31 AM
9/25/2006 10:39:57 AM
Exactly. You're gonna be waiting anyway, so you might as well call up and to get an answer instead of wait and get no answer
9/25/2006 10:45:11 AM
Some doctors will prescribe over the phone, others will want to see you first. If you saw the doc relatively recently, they may just go ahead and call in the Rx, but if you haven't been in a while, they may want to see you first to make sure you're in good working order.

Dick works good for cramps. So does chamomile tea.
9/25/2006 11:59:59 AM
what about dick...soaked in chamomile tea?
9/25/2006 12:01:53 PM
Not joking... a girl once told me that sexually active girls experience fewer and less severe sympyoms.

i was on the pill awhile back for quite some time, but i went off it cuz me and the bf broke up, so no point in staying on the pill really when i didn't have insurance and it was $texas with no insurance. well, now my bf and i are back together and we decided i should get back on it . so i've only been back on the pill for a month, and the cramps are 10 times worse NOW than they've ever been. they weren't this bad when i was on the pill the first several years, so i have no idea why they'd be so bad now. was just curious if other girls had gotten prescription pain pills, or if they knew of something OTC that works well, other than Aleve and Extra Strength stuff.ok now that you guys have way too much info, i'm gonna call and talk to the obgyn. i posted the thread just to see the other girl's opinions.and yes, you are slightly correct about dick (i dunno about the tea). i have found that my cramps usually lighten up after a good deep dicking.

Weird, getting on hormonal birth control was what stopped me from getting that terrible shooting-down-the-legs pain. I could barely walk the first day of my period, really. Now, if I get them at all (which is rare), I just take four Advil and I'm good for the day.But yeah, see a gyno or something.
9/25/2006 2:19:03 PM
Call the doctor, but if you have my doctor, you will never get a call back.^ I found the hormone birth control of help with the cramps as well. Usually it takes a little while for the birth control to take affect. Maybe you will just have to wait for the birth control to kick in.[Edited on September 25, 2006 at 8:30 PM. Reason : .]

Sometimes a few glasses of wine and an aspirin helps. Thins the blood, which stops the clots that cause some of the cramps. And, if you're OBGYN doesn't prescribe, consider speaking with your general physician. Also, I'm sure you've already heard this...but there are some exercises you can do to help relieve the pain.
9/25/2006 8:50:37 PM
for the last three days, my cramps have started when i wake up in the morning, and continued nearly throughout the day with very few breaks. unfortunately i can't have a glass of wine before or during work
9/25/2006 9:06:36 PM
I used to have cramps so bad that I couldnt go to school for a week - I was stuck in the bed crying for daysI started taking depo provera over 2 years ago and my cramps stopped within a month
9/25/2006 9:56:59 PM
Use one of the warm thingies... I like the ThermaCare ones the most. You'll still probably want the pain medicine, but I find those to help me a LOT.
9/26/2006 12:51:14 PM
why are there any men responding to this post?????????

I know that when I started BC I had absolutely horrible cramps... I wanted to die. literally. And this is incredibly horrible for someone who is used to not having any pain whatsoever before taking the pill. My answer? Extra strength Rapid Release Tylenol. I'd pop 3-4 of those things, and it was only like 45 min until the pain subsided... The reason why you're having them now is that the pill is seriously messing with your hormones, and it's kind of like your body saying "WTF is happening here???!"I'm really sorry you hurt - I hope you feel better soon.
10/9/2006 5:48:34 AM
^ I'm no doctor and I fortunately don't know what cramps feel like, but you should be careful concerning how much acetaminophen you take. The posted "Extra strength Rapid Release Tylenol. I'd pop 3-4 of those things" seems on the high side for one dose to me. You're taking half of a daily dose at once. And do not drink alcohol within several days of having taken acetaminophen. Just a friendly reminder.http://www.tylenol.ca/English/product_detail.asp?pro=33

i'm hoping that the reason for the sudden surge of pain/cramps was because it was my first period while being back on the pill. in two or three weeks when i start again, i'll find out if that was the case, or if i've just suddenly developed the kind of cramps that put you in bed for two days. if i have developed some serious cramps, you best believe i'll be calling my doc and begging for pain pills, cuz i don't deal well with pain and i'm not about to tolerate that.i've never had a problem with cramps or pain while on my period, and i'm hoping that's still the case. but i can say that as i've gotten older, the pain has slowly gotten worse. ten years ago when it all first started, i had no symptoms whatsoever. it has worked its way up, and now i get one really bad cramp at the onset, then one really bad cramp at the end, and just mild discomfort throughout.[Edited on October 9, 2006 at 10:01 AM. My friend has a prescription from her doctor for when she gets bad cramps (they would keep her home from school and everything). I looked at the bottle though, and it's just prescription ibuprofen- 800mg. That's equivalent to 4-200mg tablets that you can get OTC. I would be careful when popping that much ibuprofen, but as long as your not drinking or taking them on an empty stomach, you would probably be okay. And, obviously I'm not a doctor, so I can't really say any of this with authority... start with 3 and see if it helps is what I would do. Good luck... we all know how painful cramps can be!
10/9/2006 5:43:58 PM
Well, I can usually take that much because I'm heavier than the average person. Normally, the higher the body mass you are, the more meds you need to take to get the warranted effect. I've also got perscription pain meds as well - but I took that many before I was perscribed those drugs. Fortunately, I haven't had to take that many tylenol in a couple of months. But it's good to have the caution out.. thanks for posting that.
10/9/2006 6:37:27 PM
Yes, but your liver is normal size--unless you have a condition known as fatty liver. In that case, you DEFINITELY would not want to put additional strain on the liver with excess acetaminophen.

Maybe you should change bc. They are so many different combinations of hormones in those things...maybe there is smthg better for you. I know it just depends and you're probably looking for one that has a generic. Maybe the dude should just wear a condom lol jk.
10/12/2006 2:18:29 AM
Just wanted to add my 2 cents. You prob. want to cut down on the tylenol/advil/ibuprofen use if you're popping them like candy. I know it sounds retarded but you can become addicted to them and then when you stop you have rebound headaches which make migraines look like a cakewalk. Just a warning because that cycle of pain isn't something you want to deal with when you already have other issues.
