I ate a steak sandwich for dinner with strawberries and steamed broccoli.
9/24/2006 10:56:08 PM
alright... do you agree with: "if there is no supreme being to lay down the moral law, each individual is free to do as he or she pleases."
9/24/2006 10:57:57 PM
Which is better strawberry or chocolate icecream?
9/24/2006 10:59:06 PM
i'd say read the first few chapters of Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis - in the very beginning he goes over the idea of morality - don't be turned off by the title if you aren't religious
9/24/2006 11:00:17 PM

9/24/2006 11:16:52 PM
9/24/2006 11:17:59 PM
well i know the answer is 'no'. but what im trying to get at is why, like tchenku said, christians seem to think so... 'cause it has to be more than theyre condescending assholes
9/24/2006 11:25:41 PM
Seriously man, anybody who thinks about this shit for more than 15 seconds realizes the answer is no.Obviously you haven't looked into the field of ethics ... at all. There are plenty of moral theories, including objective moral theories, that are "stand-alone".
9/24/2006 11:27:22 PM
I was raised atheist and have yet to kill anyone. So I'm going to go with no.
9/24/2006 11:29:38 PM

9/24/2006 11:30:35 PM
Why do you think morality requires a God? Because if you don't have hellfire hanging over your head, you'll go on a sinful binge?
9/24/2006 11:31:40 PM
No.

nobut, God and morality go hand in hand
9/25/2006 12:17:47 AM
^^Yeah...most stuff can be traced to hygienic concerns (often anachronisms), or can be replicated by straight utilitarianism.Funny, that.
9/25/2006 12:25:29 AM
Depends on your flavor of utilitarianism I suppose -- too many forms of it have monstrous consequences. Then again, same for Judeo-Christian ethics.
9/25/2006 12:28:40 AM
my personal opinionwhich doesn't mean shit to anyone else, and i realize that,is yes, but only in the sense that it was a creation of God.but whether or not one believes in God has absolutely nothing to do with their moral character. It's something I wish my fellow christians would think about before they judge nonbelievers as "amoral sinners" and whatnot
9/25/2006 12:42:19 AM
9/25/2006 12:54:18 AM
Religious people think everything is a creation of God, why would they think any different of morality?

9/25/2006 1:17:37 AM
9/25/2006 1:23:17 AM
Okay so sinful shit and things that come about via free will aren't the creations of God directly -- but something like morality?
