9/17/2006 7:50:04 PM
would be a good candidate, but do we have any real shot at gettign this guy?
9/17/2006 7:56:34 PM
Johnson seems happy at Navy, and anyone who mentions Cowher should be suspended.
9/17/2006 8:02:33 PM
but he bought a house in raleigh!
9/17/2006 8:03:42 PM
all this wishfull thinking is useless, have we forgot how much trouble we had hiring a basketball coach, many big names but no takers
9/17/2006 8:10:39 PM
what about the alum that played QB here and coaches at Miami (OH) or wherever?
9/17/2006 8:16:57 PM
norm chow!
9/17/2006 8:38:37 PM
Having been at Georgia Southern while Johnson was in his prime down there, I can say he is a fantastic coach. However, he is pretty set at Navy, and I don't see why he would even come to NCSU other than a shit ton of money, and that even seem to be enough to get anyone to come there either(basketball coach).
9/17/2006 8:54:47 PM
^there were other reasons...like a decent coach that made the tourney being thrown under the bus.amato's firing would make sense, provided he keeps losing like this.
9/17/2006 8:59:04 PM
True, but they are walking into a terrible team, situation, and fans that expect too much. Almost as bad as the basketball thing.I honestly think once the fans realize they aren't an elite college sports program, and won't be consistantly probably ever, they would be more confortable just supporting their team and not sitting around with expectations that are almost ridiculous to expect. Kind of like Vanderbilt. They know they will maybe have a few years of being good here and there, but they never expect to be a power in the SEC, and never will be. Thats pretty much where you guys stand.[Edited on September 17, 2006 at 9:03 PM. Reason : .]
9/17/2006 9:00:34 PM
he'd be walking into a situation with great facilities, bcs dollars, and a fanbase that will like him as long as he duplicates what he's done previously at navy and gsu.everyone loved chuck when he was making bowls.[Edited on September 17, 2006 at 9:02 PM. Reason : .]
9/17/2006 9:01:48 PM
football is not basketball. our fanbase would be happy w/ a team that competes in the acc i would imagine. i know i would.
9/17/2006 9:06:10 PM
Thats the problem, with FSU, Miami, and VT its almost a worse situation than basketball.
9/17/2006 9:07:44 PM
the criticism of amato was very small when he was coming in 4th and making bowls, it only became noticeable when he began to tank this year and part of last.if we're a tough job, unc is one too. as is any job at any other bcs school.
9/17/2006 9:10:01 PM
first things first....
9/17/2006 10:17:45 PM
isn't johnson an option coach? i can't see that kind of thing working against acc defenses
9/17/2006 10:19:30 PM
9/17/2006 10:20:55 PM
Shane Montgomery....not now but maybe later. He needs to prove himself first at Miami Ohio.He holds the one passing record PR doesn't have...yards passing in one game. Had like 530 or something against Duke in 1989 I think when Duke won the ACC under Spurrier.
9/17/2006 10:25:27 PM
btttHe's from Avery County. He runs a disciplined program. He's the anti-Amato.As for the option, someone on PackPride claims that he once said that if he could recruit better backs, then he wouldn't be running the option. We have good backs.[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 1:55 AM. Reason : .]
11/19/2006 1:53:02 AM
forget it, Chuck is here for good
11/19/2006 1:55:04 AM
his offense is the equivilent of herb's
11/19/2006 1:56:08 AM
wow, thats convincing.run-based offenses never work. sinceraly,Tom Osborn
11/19/2006 1:58:40 AM
i don't have to be convincing.we're not getting this guy
11/19/2006 2:04:10 AM
statefan knows Chuck is here to stay, hes a smart man
11/19/2006 2:04:45 AM
chuck is gone after the blowout loss against ecu.but I doubt we get paul johnson.
11/19/2006 2:06:23 AM
i didnt read the rest of the thread, but my dad wants this guy too
11/19/2006 2:09:31 AM
so who could we get?or do you think chuck will seriously be allowed to coach here again if we lose out?Others mentioned so far are Mike Leach at TT (too streaky, but puts good teams out there and plays 3rd fiddle in Texas), Bobby Johnson at Vanderbilt (doing good at a tough school in a tough conference), and...Dicl Sheridan Hey, I'd take Sheridan back today. He's still better than Amato, even after being gone so long.[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 2:14 AM. Reason : .]
11/19/2006 2:11:45 AM
are you talking to me or nester or both?
11/19/2006 2:12:45 AM
do you want this to turn into an embarrassment like the basketball situation? where we switched a winner for some washed up nba dropout? Chuck is here to stay
11/19/2006 2:13:15 AM
^^youthis isnt like the basketball situation. we didnt go after any guys at lesser schools like we should have done. we should have looked at the MVC, the CAA, places like that. We let our pride get to us, went after big dogs at big schools, and got shot down, as expected. We, as an ACC school with great facilities and a fanbase loyal to the team and school, could easily land a solid coach from a lesser school, who would proceed to win given the newfound benefits of being at a bigger school.
11/19/2006 2:17:18 AM
11/19/2006 2:18:04 AM
nvm, i didnt actually see that, i was skimming. sorry.[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 2:20 AM. Reason : your edit answered it]
11/19/2006 2:19:49 AM
^^^ we didnt go after lesser coaches because we didnt want to get someone worse than herb. this is the ACC, and some "weber state" coach isnt going to cut the beef. the same goes for football. why go after a mid major coach who will just go 5-7 every year when we have a coach whos shown he can get the job done? call it a rebuilding year or whatever you have to, but face facts. Chuck isnt going anywhere[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 2:20 AM. Reason : .]
11/19/2006 2:20:43 AM
you realize herb sendek, coach K, and many many others were said "mid major coaches"
11/19/2006 2:24:18 AM
Coaches from lesser conferences that move up never do well. Sinceraly,Urban Meyer, Jim Grobe, George Welsh, Terry Hoeppner, and others I cannot rememberEspecially not from Division 1-AARegards,Jim TresselAnd especially not at NC StateYour Pal,Dick Sheridan[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 2:25 AM. 11/19/2006 2:25:05 AM
football =/= basketball when it comes to coaching

and i could dig up a list of failed mid major coaches at least 10 times as long, so whats your goddamn point? just because a few get lucky doesnt mean wed pick one that would become the next big thingdo you realize who our AD is?
11/19/2006 2:27:43 AM
i'd rather us take our chances
11/19/2006 2:28:11 AM
and then we're down in the basement for 10+ years like duke, where if we'd just keep what we have then we can build on it and get even better then we have been. one bad year does not merit throwing the Man to the curb
11/19/2006 2:29:42 AM
like duke?jesus christ, where do you people come fromit's not one bad year, it's constant degradationWE CANNOT GET ANY WORSEwe've lost to akron, southern miss, unc (!), and we're going to be destroyed at home by ecuWECANNOT GET ANY WORSE[Edited on November 19, 2006 at 2:31 AM. Reason : ]
11/19/2006 2:30:57 AM
we just gave unc their only d-1a win of the entire year.
11/19/2006 2:30:58 AM
and I think that Chuck has a losing record only to be beaten in terms of shittiness by Dukes coach.
11/19/2006 2:32:23 AM
11/19/2006 2:32:33 AM
we also beat FSU and BC. and if it wasnt for evans int-throwing ass, we'd have been more competative in those close games we lost. we could easily be 5-6 or 6-5 now and you people would not be having this argument. when we're winning and going to bowls and the NCAA tournament everything is peachy but as soon as we lose a game its "FIRE HERB/CHUCK"
11/19/2006 2:33:09 AM
if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their butts when they hop, what's your point?chuck is 4 or 5 games under .500 without the best QB in acc history.[/argument]
