it's Windows, you don't need a firewall, you need a good backup solution and working installation media for the bi-annual PC exorcism

i have a linksys router that obviously has a firewall in it, but still i'd rather have another firewall

a software level firewall is fundamentally flawed in that.. the traffic has already made it to your machine. the one built into xp is more than sufficient, as they all do the exact same thing, mostly the same way.

so nobody here uses any kind of firewall with .x64

well first off the nvidia firewall is a piece of shit and will fuck you.secondly a NAT hardware firewall will protect you from the internets perfectly well as long as you dont do stupid shit like put yourself in the dmz.thirdly. The windows firewall offers sufficient protection against external forces of evil. However it does not prevent you from sending outbound traffic. Not that this matters because if you're sending bad outbound traffic its user error. fourthly: Since unsolicited inbound traffic will be blocked by the nat firewall the only bad stuff you're going to get is stuff you download yourself. This is why you get an anti-virus clientsummary: Hardware NAT router protection is enough. Get a good AV client and keep it up to date.

zonealarm has a 64-bit beta, seems the open beta has closed though... i think the only option is windows or tiny and if you're concerned about OUTGOING traffic, tiny really would be the only option since neither windows firewall, nor hardware will prevent it...except tiny cost $99http://www.tinysoftware.com/home/tiny2?s=3318482153581441328A0&&pg=content05&an=tf64_download

^ The nForce firewall will cause your computer to crash before long... it sucks, but it is the way of things
