anyone good at organic chemistry? From among the constitutional isomers of C6H12, give the IUPAC name for: a) a derivative of cyclopentane. b) a derivative of cyclobutane containing only one branch.

I'm doing that same homework...I'm struggling too.Especially with naming the compounds. I don't know whether I'm using the correct notation. For #2 b. (b/c I already screwed up a.) how would you write the IUPAC name? especially in webassign.I thought it was 4-Ethly-5,5-dimethyl-3-methylnonane[Edited on September 14, 2006 at 10:06 PM. Reason : pic]

yea for real, i got 32 points out of 100, i suck at this shit

I thought I was following all the rules correctly. I have to be using the wrong notation. for #2. C. i thought it was 4-ethyl-5-methylhexane but its wrong.did she say something about not being able to use - in webassign?

3,5,5-trimethyl-4-ethylnonanethats my guess[Edited on September 14, 2006 at 10:31 PM. Reason : .]

4-ethyl-3,5,5-trimethylnonane (you have to put ethyl before methyl because e comes before m in the alphabet)

anybody know what the hell #3 is about?

you really have to post the question for help, cause it's been 2 years since organic 1

any help? im down to my last submission. for CI was thinking 3-bromo-3-methyl-2-cyclohexyl-2-butanol. or am I going about it the wrong way...[Edited on November 8, 2006 at 8:20 PM. Reason : dammit]
