I've been losing some weight but it seems the last part of my figure to change has been my gut. Is this just me not able to accurately judge changes in the way I look or is that area of the body the last to give in to fat loss?

I lost a lot around my chest/arms and legs before my gut/ass area started going down.

on males this is the notorious spot for putting on weight and the last to lose iteach sex has their one spot that is first to gain and last to losetoo bad that spot on the females is not their boobs

I have a singular ab
9/13/2006 7:31:39 PM
Yes. Try working on your abs. Also keep in mind that some people simply cannot get rid of their tummy without surgery. I mean, you'd have to starve the rest of your body extremely thin to lose the small fat pouch on the waist.
9/13/2006 7:53:36 PM
I thought if you did enough cardio you could lose it?
9/13/2006 8:27:25 PM
cardio helps, and so does ab work, but diet is the big kicker for abs.
9/13/2006 8:28:47 PM
Stomach and ass go last. Try to increase cardio as you go on to lean out more and definitely adjust what you eat. You can't lose gut/ass without somewhat of a lifestyle change.
9/13/2006 8:32:01 PM
Yeah, I'm trying. Only thing that sucks is I'm trying to build some muscle mass too. So my upper body is getting big(ger), but I'm having problems slimming down around the midsection. I eat relatively lean means, but a fair amount of protein too.

This thread only requires a one word answer:Yes

Diet is the biggest issue. It's hard to eat sucky food all the time.

There have been studies that stress causes weight to accumulate around your waistline so maybe that's why your gut isnt going

No, you have muscles under your gut man, it's just you have a shitload of fat covering it up.

switch from beer to liquor.eat better.move more.have lots of sex.
9/14/2006 12:52:06 AM
^how's that work? Liquor has more calories than beer.
9/14/2006 1:32:14 AM
beer has a lot of calories tht aren't alcohol... that and drinking lots of liquor > bulimia

I went from about 178 or so down to about 170 lately. I'm trying to get back to ~ 160. I am 5'10-5'10 1/2. I've been eating less, but I am not the type to lose weight strictly by dieting. As such, I've been running about 20-25 miles a week, averaging about 40 minutes 4-5 days a week. I purchased a chinup bar about a month ago and have steadily increased my performance with that, which actually has noticeably toned both my arms and my abdominal area. I wouldn't say I've kicked it into overdrive yet but I'm satisfied with my progress so far. I just wish this gut area would be gone sooner.

^weight is MOSTLY a function of diet, you can't get around thatwith that being said, all that cardio could actually hinder your goal. You should be lifting weights, HEAVY about 3 times a week to preserve muscle. Lifting is actually better for increasing your metabolism than cardio.the first place you gained weight is the last place to go usuallyit varies from person to person, but mostly for guys it is the abdominal regionwomen tend to be more in the butt and thigh area[Edited on September 14, 2006 at 5:48 PM. questionso I'm in the early stages of losing weight, down 20 lbs (4% body fat) since January and falling, but I still have at least like 30-40 lbs to still loseI have a fair amount of fat on my chest, not quite to the point of mantits, but it just looks like I have stronger pecs than I actually do. When does this fat typically get burned off compared to losing fat in other areas?
9/14/2006 5:56:05 PM
hmm, yeah, i'm in the same boat as crede basically. i used to run competitively and weighed about 140 (5'9"). When i quit running I didn't change any other habits, so I gained weight extremely quickly (went from running 70+ miles a week to doing nothing, but ate and drank all the same). For the past 5 years I've been bouncing around between 185 and 190. I started exercising again a couple months ago (all cardio - running, biking, swimming. training for a triathlon. but no gym work) and watching my diet and I've dropped 13 pounds so far (185 to 172). I noticed my love handles were the first things to go, so going down my side is almost flat now, so my waist is smaller b/c I've tightened my belt 2 sizes. The next thing I noticed was my chin and neck are starting to slim up a bit, finally. But my main disappointment is I'm still not seeing much change in my gut either, even though my waist, below my gut, is shrinking. I guess I should start doing abs, and as I continue to go down into the 160 and below I guess it will finally start to go away.
9/14/2006 6:05:47 PM
patience people...think about how long it took you to put that weight on, it isn't going to just magically fall of because you finally decided to work out.make sure your exercise AND diet are in check for best resultsif you're really seroius about it and can't seem to lose the last bit you should consider tracking your calories.^also, doing abs will not do anything except build your muscle that's under your fat. Whether or not you see them will depend upon you bodyfat %.

Like I said, I know that weight is a function of diet, but I simply can't lose weight by restricting my diet completely. So I'm more just eating not-so-much and exercising to burn calories.
9/14/2006 6:53:15 PM
I'm just gonna throw this out there as a possibly calorie reducer...adderall

CALORIES ARE NOT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH ALCOHOL CONSUMPTIONALCOHOL CONSUMPTION:decreases protein synthesishas an adverse effect on muscle fibers used in weight lifting (type 2 I believe)decreases testosterone increases cortisol production
