Just curious what you guys think?

When is the last loss that we've had that was worse in terms of status and prestige of the team that beat us?

Wake and UNC.

I don't know which one was worse last year, but that's on par.

FSU was #2 when we beat them in 1998 and subsequently lost at Baylor before kicking Donovan McNabb's ass the following week. That loss to Baylor still hurts.

The loss when we were 9-0 was to GT and required a huge second half collapse by us. That game still hurts too. The worst part was during the third quarter (I think), we were controlling the game and GT just threw an incomplete pass on like 3 and 15. So we were set to get the ball back. But the refs had called a false start or illegal motion or something and so GT got another shot on 3rd down and completed like a 24 yard pass. They took that momentum into the endzone on that drive and for the rest of the game. I'll never forget how shitty it felt leaving the game that night.

Wake Forest, 2003 - at one point we were down 24-3 in the 3rd quarter I think.

I still contend that losing to wake and unc last year is just as bad, but i realize y'all want the answer to be longer ago.

UNC last year.

Furman back in the 80's before Sheridan came.

ECU in 1996.

UNC in 1999 in Charlotte hurt.

UNC 1999.

Senior Quarterback Jamie Barnett vs. "You with the Pretzels"

Curry was hurt, their backup was hurt, shit, the third stringer was even out. They had a WR who played QB in HS under center, AND they had lost to Furman a few games before that.

That game really hurt.

This isn't as bad as that, but its bad. I honestly thought that App State had a better chance of beating us than Akron did though.

Funny thing is that we were down like 24-0 in that Baylor game.

I say that at Wake PR's senior year was the worst.

38-24.

^^and thats absolutely correct. Going into the season with the most serious championship hopes we've had in a long time and lose to fucking wake second game of the season. Terrible

The 98' Baylor loss was much worse than anything in the Chuck Amato era.

WRAL interviewed the team before the Baylor game, and over half the starters didn't even know what state Baylor was in. They were so preoccupied with Syracuse that they didn't even bother to prepare for a Big 12 school.

haha i remember a really shitty one

That game in 2004 where we were whomping UMD until TA fumbled and it cost us the game on P. Rivers' Senior night was pretty fucking upsetting. The worst part of all was the UMD player stomping all over the WolfPack letters in the end zone. Totally ruined my buzz.

The question wasn't a shittier loss or one that hurt more, but in terms of a team that beat us with less prestige and status in college football.

So all those Wake and Carolina comments go right out the window.

Sounds like Baylor in '98 is the winner.

Baylor is a bottom feeder in the big 12
Wake and UNC are bottom feeders in the ACC

so i don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Baylor is every bit as good as Wake.

I mean look at Wake's stadium.

And yet we keep losing to them.

^^ don't confuse football prestige with basketball.

UNC was fairly respectable when Mack Brown was there, but they were no more than mediocre other than that.

He compiled a 20-3 (.870) mark and led the Tar Heels to a No. 4 final national ranking in the USA Today/ESPN poll and No. 6 ranking by The Associated Press in 1997.

^ Thanks.

I hate Carolina as much as the next, and I'm not saying they're prestigous in football or anything, all I said was that Baylor was not even close to comparable to Carolina and possibly even Wake.

So yes, Baylor in '98 is the last time a team with a worse prestige in football has beaten us.

This loss started the end of Amato's success because the next week we lost to OSU in a way only NCSU could lose.

I still say Wake>Baylor.

They've been ranked and not suck-ass recently. Baylor cannot say the same. Plus, Wake's in conference, so even if they were even, it'd be harder to forgive losing to the nonconference foe. Add in the rivalry, and Wake's not even close to being as bad of a loss as Baylor.

Seton Hall in Basketball.

Or FSU, or WVU, or UVA, or any of those other teams we lost to on our home court who had no business beating us...

and also the St. johns game in NYC that was pitiful.

i'd say the st. johns loss was probably the most embarassing loss I've seen

Baylor is the only team to ever shut out State in Carter-Finley Stadium. The game was in late September in '95 and it was a cold, rainy, miserable day. The only 1st down we got in the whole 1st half was from back to back offside penalties on Baylor.

Oh yeah, and losing to duke in '93 was pretty friggin' embarrassing.

ok maybe not in terms of status and prestige of the team that beat us, but in my mind the worst loss was the blown lead in the ACC tourney vs. Duke
