My sister just hit a parked Acura (a 4-door sedan type), and we are not going to get it fixed through insurance, but will pay for it ourselves. Does anyone have a rough estimate for how much it costs, parts and labor, to replace a bumper? The owner will probably go through the Acura dealer, which will cost alot more, we just want to know how much to expect.

id claim it.i went through this a few months ago when i backed my car w/ a mountain bike on the back into her hood. it was a decent scratch, but still just a scrap. her estimates were all $700+claimed it, GEICO took care of it all, no rate hikes. done and done.

did it just get cracked,,,,did you bend any metal behind the bumper....can it be repaired or must it be replaced....

It got scratched pretty bad, I just expect them to say they need to replace it. Can you wait to claim it, or do you have to do it that day?

Do you have to call the police if you want to file a claim?

you do have to call your insurance company - why not call and ask them what they want

find out the make and model of the car you hit and find out wat all you need to replace. thhen go to http://www.partstrain.com and order it. if you don't know how to put it all on, ask someone who knows cars. I am getting ready to fix $3500 of damage to a '91 accord for about $900

^^Yeah, you can do that if it's your own car you fucked up, but if it's somebody else's, I highly doubt that they will let you go that route. And if somebody else wanted to fix my car like that after they fucked it up I would tell them to fuck themselves with a fencepost.[Edited on September 10, 2006 at 5:05 PM. Reason : redirect]

You going to pay for their rental car as well?

If they replace it, then probably about $1000-$1200. If they fix it, about $4-800 depending on damage.

Ahaha thanks ZX, I was about to say the same thing. If its my car I fucked up, thats straight. But who the FUCK is gonna let somebody fuck their shit up, and then buy parts from who the fuck knows where and get their brother/cousin/some fucking bum to fix that shit with no warranty or liability insurance of any kind in case that shit falls off driving down the road or something.I'll be damned. Just file it. Unless your sister is a dumbass and has already had a few other wrecks on her record, then it probably will not affect your insurance at all. An Acura dealer will bend her over and give her the business for their original parts and high labor charges, but that shit will probably be done right.

yep and yep. they'll make sure its done "proper" which means pricey. No, you dont have to have called the cops to file a claim. just call em up and tell em what happened.
