Okay, so, got a drive tossed at me with "dont know whats wrong, low level fomat might fix it".Here's whats up, and I'm stuck (no biggie but it would be nice to have the 120GB drive working). It's currently in a USB enclosure, and my computer can see the device but gets a Code 10 Device cannot start error - I checked this after I couldn't see the drive in my computer or with Western Digital's tool to low level fomat (at least I think it's for low level formats as well as the other maintenance). Golingforode 10 gets me lots of advice on driver issues, which I am fairly sure is not the case.(XP is the OS and enlosure manufacturer (adaptec) says none needed) Any suggestions or call it FUBAR?

when hooking it up in the enclosure, make sure the jumper is set to master...i've yet to find a drive i couldn't fix as long as it wasn't a physical issue

i accidentally left the enclosure on, just pulled it out, it's pretty warm not sure if that's right or not..and it is already set to master. Any other thoughts?[Edited on September 9, 2006 at 5:23 PM. Reason : .]

Can you remove it from the enclosure and hook it up directly via IDE or whatever?

Can, just have to disconnect one of my harddrives, i'll do that tommorow evening, it's a bit of a fuss given my current set up.

Obviously the person who gave it to you doesn't know squat so just give it back saying it was fubar. Either you format it and they lose their data anyhow, or they can get it replaced for less than what your time is worth.

^ cept I keep the drive, so it's worth my while to fiddle with it at least for a bit. they gave it to me, not asked me to fix for them.[Edited on September 9, 2006 at 10:59 PM. Reason : .]
