Glad I am not the only one who thinks the Texans made a terrible choice.
9/6/2006 5:21:31 PM
mario williams is a wannabe julius peppers
9/6/2006 5:22:27 PM
As much as I love Mario and the fact that an NC State player went #1 in the NFL Draft, the Texans were absolute morons for passing up Reggie Bush.
9/6/2006 5:24:33 PM
^ yep... my thoughts exactly
9/6/2006 5:25:10 PM
I know, they had to do something to attract some fans to that franchise, instead, the just totally piss off anyone and everyone who had any interest in them. GG Texans! Hell, even if you don't want/need Bush, atleast take fucking Vince Young![Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:26 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2006 5:25:32 PM
Since when is Mario a project DE?Anyone who has watched him in college and pre-season and knows football knows he's the real deal.I'm not saying I wouldn't have picked Bush, but downplaying Mario like that is ignorant.
9/6/2006 5:28:40 PM
I guess you can say he is a project because he will never be able to live up to the expectations people have set for him in order to make it understandable to choose him over Bush. Hell, he will have to have the best career of any defensive person ever before people say it was a wise choice.
9/6/2006 5:31:35 PM
Why is Reggie Bush already Michael Jordan and Gale Sayers? Once Bush has six rings and Mario is out of football, start making these statements. Neither has even played a regular season game yet. Maybe both will be stars or flameouts. Stop jumping to conclusions.
9/6/2006 5:34:08 PM
Thats really not what he is trying to say. Read the entire thing.
9/6/2006 5:34:46 PM
How many TD's does Reggie bush have as an NFL player? I think this argument might be more debatable in 2 seasons at a minimum. Oh yea, Why does no one give the Rockets any crap for taking Hakeem over MJ. If MJ didn't retire, it would have been 8 straight and none for Houston, everyone was a pawn in MJ's career and life from 91-98, he let the Rockets win as far as I can tell.
9/6/2006 5:34:53 PM
Once again, thats not the point of the article.
9/6/2006 5:36:06 PM
9/6/2006 5:36:12 PM
No, he is trying to say that the Texans had no valid reason to take Mario over Bush, and that they are morons for doing it. Which a lot of your NCSU fans in this thread, already seem to agree with.[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:37 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2006 5:37:23 PM
Look, he has hated on NC State in the past, but this is a fair point. It was a horrible move, only highlighted further by Davis missing the whole season...That is nothing against Mario Williams; it really isn't. I hope he goes on to have a great career.. fact is not drafting Reggie Bush was just a bad move.
9/6/2006 5:37:50 PM
question...did this come out before or after it was announced that domanick davis was injured for the season?also the jordan/bowie comparison is not valid, at least not yet...Bush hasnt even played a single snap in a regular season NFL game...theres no telling how his career will be...outrunning college kids on saturdays is different than outrunning men on sundays
9/6/2006 5:38:23 PM
I am honestly not trying to hate on NCSU on this, it just happens that Mario went there. He could have gone to Ohio State, and I would still be calling the Texans idiots for passing up on Bush or even Vince.^The reason he chose that was that thats how people judge mistakes in the drafts, and not since then, has someone passed up on a talent like Bush's to take someone like Mario with the first pick.[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:40 PM. Reason : ..]
9/6/2006 5:38:33 PM
plus heres another thing...dont forget how bad they mightve fucked up a few years ago by NOT taking a DE
9/6/2006 5:40:33 PM
Alright fine, but I still think articles like this are bullshit until the players have had a chance to prove themselves. If the whole point of the article was that Houston should have taken Bush to make more money and get more fans, then okay I agree with it. In my opinion, he is just trying to act as if Bush is the second coming.
9/6/2006 5:41:26 PM
Umm yeah, thats pretty much the point. Oh, and the fact that the Texans had NO fucking running back worth a shit and passed up on the biggest RB to hit the draft in a LONG time.
9/6/2006 5:42:45 PM
Domanick Davis was a 1,000 back his first two years in the league and damn near a 1,000 yard back last year in 11 games
9/6/2006 5:44:16 PM
^^ then why the hell is he bringing up Gale Sayer and Michael Jordan. All he had to say was that Texan fans wanted Bush, by drafting him instead of Mario they would have sold more tickets. Bringing in Jordan and Sayers and comparing Mario to Bowie is just bullshit at this point.[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:46 PM. Reason : ^]
9/6/2006 5:45:56 PM
Dominack Davis is a damn good running back...especially behind that shitty line.
9/6/2006 5:46:07 PM
9/6/2006 5:47:57 PM
9/6/2006 5:49:19 PM
Coming out of college Bush was a way bigger deal than LT.^Are you kidding me, Bush is way more valued than Peterson.[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:49 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2006 5:49:28 PM
9/6/2006 5:50:47 PM
Thats why I said "to hit the draft" LT wasnt as big a deal as Bush was going into the draft.Yeah but Mario will never have a great year. Nobody will ever give him credit for a great year unless he wins the super bowl by himself. Thats pretty much the pressure the guy is under. [Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:52 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2006 5:51:26 PM
but who is a big deal and who is more hyped up means nothingits all about what they do on sundaysand for bush and williams, their first sundays are this sunday
9/6/2006 5:52:14 PM
Bush is a bigger deal because he played in one of the media capitals of the US. If it was Mario playing for USC and Bush playing for NC State behind our offensive line, guess who the media would be sucking off...
9/6/2006 5:52:34 PM
Most likely still Reggie Bush. The media doesnt hand out blowjobs to defensive players usually.
9/6/2006 5:53:37 PM
9/6/2006 5:54:39 PM
Lets see how Mario does against a real offensive, and not Duke or Wake. How about that?[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:55 PM. Reason : .]
9/6/2006 5:55:19 PM
thats fairall i'm trying to say is ITS TOO EARLY TO BE CERTAINalthough he actually never played against Duke]
9/6/2006 5:55:55 PM
Nobody is saying its certain, just that they made the wrong choice.
9/6/2006 5:56:30 PM
and people have been saying that since the draft...the majority probably thinks bush should've gone firstcourse the majority didnt get to see mario play and the majority probably conveniently forgets how bush didnt show up in the 4th quarter of the texas game
9/6/2006 5:58:19 PM
But you are forgetting, he helped lead his team to the NC more than once. What did Mario do?/argument[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 6:01 PM. Reason : .]

at least see them in a couple reg. season games, or a full season.http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:16k8or2T-kav3M:http://www.radicalbender.com/images/abm/lovehinajumpto.jpg[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 6:06 PM. Reason : image]
9/6/2006 6:05:04 PM
I think it will take a few seasons to realize it I agree, but as of now, Bush was the right choice to make. If we new the future with NFL picks, there would have never been things like Ryan Leaf happen I guess.
9/6/2006 6:17:05 PM
9/6/2006 6:28:09 PM
You guys are missing the point.Bush plays offense.Williams plays defense.Offensive players are always glorified over the defensive players. The media and your everyday fan are in love with the touchdown. They have even more love for offensive players because of their impact on fantasy football teams. The greatest football players that people can name off the top of their heads --- that's right, offensive players. Coaches and general managers know the importance of good defensive players. We don't. Everyone bashes the pick because Bush could be the next Gale Sayers. Williams could be the next Reggie White, but that doesn't matter. The whole argument is stupid because the regular season hasn't even started yet, and none of these guys have had real playing time. Bush had ONE long run, and everyone remembers that, but everyone also seems to ignore his mediocre play during all of his other carries and catches. Williams hasn't had the chance to do much of anything during the Preseason. Critics should at least give the players two years before they make statements like this.
9/6/2006 6:44:24 PM
9/6/2006 6:46:18 PM
See, this is the problem with this entire argument.Simply put, the Texans don't NEED a primetime RB, if this transition to the Denver-style offense has any success at all. To put that into perspecrive, since Shanahan took over in '95 the Broncos have been top 10 in offense EVERY year except for the year Olandis Gary got 1000 yards (13th) and 2001, when Terrell Davis led the team with 701 yards (he would retire following that season). The Texans don't need a Reggie Bush to be successful in that offense; it demands a one-cut-and-go mentality of its RBs and Bush is IN NO WAY that type of back. He still chooses to sacrifice 5 yards to try to gain 25 yards (see what I did there?) and even admitted it after one of these preseason games.
9/6/2006 6:48:33 PM
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE
9/6/2006 6:49:32 PM
Comparing Bush and Mario to to the 1984 NBA Draft:Are the Rockets stupid for drafting Hakeen Olajuwon w/ the #1 pick when Michael Jordan was on the board? Everyone likes to pick on Sam Bowie, but there were two people picked ahead of the "Greatest Player of all Time." Everyone feels that the Olajuwon pick was justified, and the fact that Jordan turned out to be better was just that, a fact. Olajuwon is a Hall of Famer and he won two championships.Bush could be the MJ of football, but as long as Mario does a respectable job, it shouldn't be the worst move since Bowie over MJ. I would liken it to trading Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant.
9/6/2006 6:57:29 PM
how about letting bush finish a season yet before annointing him the next barry sanders
9/6/2006 6:59:08 PM
I can't wait for Reggie Bush to get his head taken off when he tries to double back and meets up with someone like Ray Lewis.
9/6/2006 7:17:11 PM
Listening to NC State fans defend the Mario Williams pick is comical. Sure, he might turn out to be a great defensive end, but you don't pass up on Reggie Bush. Sorry.
9/6/2006 7:24:13 PM
LOOK AT THE CONSPIRACY THREAD
9/6/2006 7:31:09 PM
