That's a feature in trillian itself. Go to message windows in preferences and unselect "group message windows together according to contact list groups"

Microscopic 2.0.

I haven't changed from this skin in the past 3 years.

trillian has a bunch of iChat skins that can make it look nice if you're into the mac skinning

right now i'm using Rogue because I have the google desktop sidebar on and have google talk and trillian running on that (trillian is just on top of the sidebar but it looks like it's all one sidebar)

i don't like the look of microscopic pro 2.0 ( http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/detail.php?item=25 ) - i'd rather use one of the iChat skins for trillian

I've always liked Aikon2, it's older but it doesn't look like a rainbow convention, emo frenzy, or "hey I'm goth".

I haven't found one i really like yet

I liked "bleu" or whatever it was called. it was nice, clean, and simple.

ewww i hate those big buttons and the bubble in the top bar

dude, try iChat's pack - they have a vista-friendly skin in there, otherwise browse trillian's skin site for popular ones, you'll find some nice ones. they have an OS integration section, if I'm not mistaken.

i am browsing trillian's site, but you have to click on the name for a preview pic so it sucks

as dfshadow mentioned, the preview skin for Microscopic 2.0 isn't very appealing. It's disappointing they picked that color scheme. If you download it, it comes with a SkinConfig.exe that will let you select from about half a dozen color schemes and further customization. This is what mine looks like, with text and names blurred out.

The chat windows show the four variations that are possible. You can independently choose whether or not to show the buddy icon and formatting toolbar. The reason why I've stayed with Microscopic so long is that virtually no other skin is as streamlined or minimalist while being aesthetically pleasing. As a laptop user, I abhor skins that eat up desktop space for objects in chat windows such as formatting and settings toolbars which I rarely use (bold, italics is simply done via keyboard shortcuts).

i thought "good" and "trillian" were not supposed to be in the same sentence or something

there aren't any good multi-client solutions out there

trillian is far from perfect but it's better than the other wannabe all-in-ones
