This is one of my all-time favorite westerns. I love the movie and the music. However, one thing has always vexed me about this movie, even when I was younger. I've always been a reader of the American Civil War, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly weaves the two main characters, Blondie and Tuco, through several fictional events of the Civil War. Now I'm not sure exactly where the movie takes place, but there just was not that much action during the Civil War out west, yet these two characters seem to find a lot of it, through the war ravaged town they pass through, through all the soldiers moving throughout the towns, through the Union POW camp, and finally the battle for the bridge.Any thoughts or comments? On the movie in general or what I said above? Also, during the bridge battle scenes, the Union had quite a number of gatlin guns, when gatlin guns were used very scarcely during the Civil War, even though thats where they gained notoriety.Still loved the movie though.

if memory serves me correctly, all three of the sergio leone movies were made originally for italian audiences, and they were filmed in italy. so that might explain the somewhat skewed version of historical events.good movie, though, although i prefer the one before it, For a Few Dollars More.lee van cleef is badass, though.

^Are you sure they are in that order?I just finished watching The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and that is where he picks up that Mexican style "smock" or whatever it is, that he wore throughout the other two movies.[Edited on September 3, 2006 at 4:19 PM. Reason : jas;ldjf]

I read all about the Man with No Name movies on wikipedia yesterday. Apparently theres a bit of controversy over the order, as well as whether or not Eastwood is the same character in all three. And yes, there was a substantial amount of action in the west (the largest being a battle near Fort Craig, New Mexico) although it never receives much attention due the lack of strategic objectives in the area as well as the lack of players like Grant, Lee, Sherman, etc.

I wouldnt exactly call it a substantial amount of action, compared to east of the Mississippi. And in my own humble opinion, he isnt the same character, just by virtue of the fact that with the amount of money he came across in any given movie of the three, there would be no need for more money....unless he was exceptionally greedy.[Edited on September 3, 2006 at 4:21 PM.
