Thread for talking about the band, the excitement of having them back in the student section, suggestions/ideas for the band, questions for band members (i know there are some on here), etc.Question for the band members: there was a song where the tubas were playing a real bassy rift and it looked like other members of the band were rocking back and forth. I believe this was sometime during the 3rd or 4th quarter. What is the name of the song, and will you continue to play it. I could see it becoming kind of like the Chinese Bandits song for LSU or that one that Clemson plays in between plays. Also I'm glad Apache is still being played.

heyyou suck
9/3/2006 3:41:22 PM
i liked everything except this:
9/3/2006 3:44:16 PM
yeah, but did the band play the hey song. i thought it was being played on the speakers? yeah the bassy riff should definitely be limited to a short period of time like Chinese Bandits and that song that Clemson plays.
9/3/2006 3:47:09 PM
The halftime show still sucks.
9/3/2006 3:48:36 PM
I heard Thriller
9/3/2006 3:54:46 PM
it sounded like the song they play on chappelles show during the Blackzilla skit
9/3/2006 3:57:49 PM
i still think they should let fans line up in place of the band on the field when the players run out
9/3/2006 4:21:33 PM
^Oh yeah, that was you with the most moronic idea in the history of anything....good job.The rift was just a rift thats been used in a handful of movies and probably some rap songs...Im fairly certain it was used in one of the Charlies Angels movies.Me and my friend were laughing at the constant playing of "Schools Out" by BOTH bands, especially considering that school is, in fact, IN.
9/3/2006 5:40:05 PM
The majorettes were awesome!
9/3/2006 5:50:16 PM
9/3/2006 5:53:18 PM
They should play Apache 2x every quarter...
9/3/2006 5:54:44 PM
The rift was something one of our new instructors had the sousas and drumline play on the fly after practice one day... I'm sure its commonly used... we call it 'Simon Says', I agree its fun, but they definitely did it a little too long the last game... I LOVE playing Apache, but the more we play it, the more people will get tired of it... so we want to keep it 'special'... Halftime show wasn't that great because we didn't have 2 days of rehearsal due to the storm... bare with us here? School's out is fun to play because its powerful and in your face... I think that was the only song ASU knew how to play, it was pretty pathetic... we liked playing it to let them know we do it better... Oh and the majorettes are always gorgeous and awesome!!![Edited on September 3, 2006 at 11:02 PM. Reason : l]

^^^^you sure you want to run w/ that claim of superiority over app's band? i used to be in the state band and had friends in the app band and they beat the pants off us in musical quality every which way. theyre the best in the state (thanks in small part to one of my good friends )we just play loud.other than that, good to see the band not getting screwed in the ass by athletics anymore. 9/4/2006 12:00:00 PM
we play loud?
9/4/2006 12:03:14 PM
well, that used to be how we overcame bands in the past. not sure how it is now. i wasnt there. at least they let the band back in the stands. now we just need more people to appreciate them (and get rid of morons like Randy).[Edited on September 4, 2006 at 12:07 PM. Reason : .]

Dr. Garcia definitely wants some quality to our sound. I have to admit, we sound a lot better than we did when I was in band (2002-2003). I think that is due to Dr. Garcia's demand of better sound, not just volume. Also, there has been an increase in All-County, -District, -State instrumentalists joining marching band. Overall, they sound great. 'Holiday' by Green Day sounded awesome! The only thing I want to see is the entire student section jumping with the band when the percussion plays 'JMU.'
9/4/2006 12:22:50 PM
"jump on it" is still a big favorite of mine. but i liked the band back near the students
9/4/2006 1:53:59 PM
^^ yeah, it would make my senior year if the whole student section jumped with us during that cadence.
9/4/2006 2:02:59 PM
haha the band rockswell at least the people i know in it do
9/4/2006 2:04:49 PM
I went to a high school game on Friday and the band for the home team was bigger, louder, had better uniforms, and did a better halftime show than the "Power Sound of the South" or whatever we call our band these days. I was pretty depressed to think that our university couldn't do better.
9/4/2006 2:19:38 PM
i was all state; i refuse to play for our band cause they suck

Good luck this season you guys...how many people do you guys have total this year? How many away games are you guys going to as a full or partial band? B/c some buddies of mine are goingt o most of the away games...and it's ALWAYS great to see you guys at away games!!
9/5/2006 12:10:25 PM
just under 230 this year (all-time university record)full band to all home games plus unc (duh, we need to march a block S on their field and sing "go to hell carolina!" on their pitiful little unc symbol. )partial band to va[Edited on September 7, 2006 at 2:24 AM. Reason : .]

I think it'd be pretty sweet if the band played "Let Me Clear My Throat" by DJ Kool. plus it'd be an easy song to learn. perhaps Mean Gene could be put to good use and MC it.
9/8/2006 7:14:19 PM
Whoo for being in Price Music Center this early on a saturday.
9/9/2006 7:17:05 AM
yall should play selections from ESPN Sports Jams.
9/9/2006 8:53:15 AM
so we play to the student section side yesterday and don't get any love in here?
9/10/2006 12:34:41 PM
how long did it take to learn the green day
9/10/2006 12:36:11 PM
the drill? took us maybe two practices to learn all the drill...first week of school i think.
9/10/2006 12:42:12 PM
For those of us who did not get tickets to the game, how did the band sound in reference to keeping the students pumped up? I was watching it on a 60+ inch screen at a sports pub....I could hear them a little bit on ESPN U...were there any songs played this past Saturday?
9/10/2006 2:33:19 PM
they play school's out for the summer like 50 times a game
9/10/2006 2:41:16 PM
who's the peter puffer in the color guard? The Akron game was the first time I've ever seen that dude, although I've heard about him before.
9/10/2006 3:03:21 PM
the superman theme was awesome
9/10/2006 3:16:40 PM
I'm glad the band did face the students this go-around at halftime. And thank you for drowning out the stupid male cheerleader on the loudspeaker. You guys should be pumping us up, not him
9/10/2006 4:48:18 PM
yeah we do it every year, i'm guessing because of the rivalry and it's close
9/10/2006 5:07:21 PM
9/11/2006 1:03:42 PM
it's riff
9/11/2006 1:06:08 PM
We were able to play a lot more variety and more often this last game, since we didn't have to compete with a visiting band. Also, we still have a LOT of stand tunes we haven't played at a game yet, so look for even more variety in the future. And yes, we take a full band to away UNC games every time we play them away, just like they always bring their full band here. Of course, we give them ample seating, whereas they usually cram our 215-member band into about 200 seats (and due to percussion and such we should really need more like 250 seats).
9/11/2006 3:14:31 PM
So they're not gonna send a partial band to Clemson or Maryland? Keep up the good work, PS haven't heard you guys play Final Countdown in awhile.
9/11/2006 3:20:59 PM
I don't think we're playing final countdown any more. It was one of my personal favorites, but it got old, and we're trying to spice things up a bit.And no, we don't have the $$$ to go to Clemson or Maryland, as they would probably require hotel stays, which are expensive. We've had to buy a lot of new equipment and pay for new percussion and guard instructors. As well, Dr. Garcia has been working hard to try and find us more financial support, but it's just not happening. The only away trip, besides UNC, is a day trip to UVA
9/11/2006 3:27:24 PM
Hooray for not being able to use our practice field today because it "reained too much" the past two days. Woulda been a beautiful day to practice, too. I hope we can get all of our new show together in the next three rehearsals. :-/
9/15/2006 4:36:03 PM
In reference to Bobby Bowden that I must say im a fan of is that he's a HUGE fan of having his band travel "EVERYWHERE" with his team, so it comes as no surprise that he would/along with teh FSU Band Director would make sure there is a quality band representing them in the bleachers.
9/15/2006 7:44:19 PM
^ I agree. I haven't had a chance to go to any of the games, let alone see any on TV, but it is good to hear about these improvements with our band. Hopefully, State can come up with some cool fundraisers and the improvement can therefore keep on coming.
9/15/2006 8:14:02 PM
i think the crowd needs to start jumping like the band does...seriously i think it would be fun
9/15/2006 8:24:44 PM
hope yall learn some new moves. Don't want to get shown up by a Div. 2 school's band
