lets say "someone" brings their digital cable box from home to another location. is there any way for twc to find out?

sure, but I don't believe it will work to just hook it up to the line. They have to enable the digital signal or some crap like that.

well someone is paying for that box, and you can only use it in one place, so i doubt they will be paying attention

as long as you're in the same cable division.. it should work.. hell cable modems should work as well.. outside of the division, the box or modem won't be provisioned, and won't work.. I do believe they can tell where each box is.. but is someone actually watching??.. probably not..it is technically possible.. but I don't know the legality of it. they may be ok with it.. but the ToS may say otherwise.^^^ there's no such thing as activating the signal.. digital channels goto every house that has cable.. you just need a box that has permission to access the signals and decode them.. if you had basic cable and roadrunner.. and had an HDTV with a built-in digital cable tuner.. you will be able to pick up all local feeds (standard and HD), and a few digital channels (TNT, BBC, News14 digital) without the need to order digital cable from time warner.. order digital cable gives you access to the other channels with the use of a box or CableCard[Edited on August 31, 2006 at 7:45 PM. i haven't looked at a bill lately.. but if you pay the same amount per box for digital channels.. then you should be ok.. but I want to say that TWC charges you a fee to access the digital channels.. and another fee to rent the boxes/etc.. and addtl fees for extra outlets..
