I am taking an extra class this semester just as a GPA booster...since it is extra it is listed under non-degree classes...it will count towards my GPA right?

yup . . . anything you take for a grade counts towards your GPA. and your major GPA should just be courses required for your major.

^ that's not completely correct. A degree program has certain course prefixes that always count toward the major GPA. For example, in the BLS degree program, any course beginning with a BO or GN prefix (although there are others) count toward the major gpa. If you're taking a course that deals with your major but shows up at the bottom of your degree audit under additional, chances are it does count for the major gpa but is just excess hours.
