i cant wait until we see some "dramatic" rescuing.....they had one up here in NY with the flooding 2 months ago....three people stuck in a truck....helicopter was rescuing them(of course TV one was filiming) They all got to the rope but then a wave came out of nowhere and all three drowned.....was sad.
8/30/2006 4:14:15 PM
There is way too much hype around Ernesto
8/30/2006 4:15:36 PM

CNN had the map this morning that showed this area and had us in the "at least 3 inches of rain" category saying that some areas will get "10+ inches."
8/31/2006 9:11:20 AM
3"... or maybe 10"...Man, I could be a weatherman at this point. "We will get trace amounts or biblical proportions... somewhere in there."[Edited on August 31, 2006 at 9:46 AM. Reason : n]

Anyone could be a weather man...just go to NOAA.gov, learn to read the maps, and you're money. The government does all the hard work, you just have to look pretty on TV.In other news, I'm going to be driving through the storm on my way to the beach tomorrow
8/31/2006 9:51:31 AM
I just love working about 30 yards from Crabtree Creek.
8/31/2006 9:54:43 AM
yeah they only people who need to concern themselves are people who live/work around crabtree creek and co.
8/31/2006 10:25:05 AM
trailer park trash...can you say HELP FEMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8/31/2006 10:57:55 AM
8/31/2006 11:00:54 AM
yeah... it probably wasn't as bad as they thought, but you don't try and find out how bad a flooded road is
8/31/2006 11:01:31 AM
i love how they are going to live in busses hahah

the wind speed doesnt have much to do with the rain. some of the heaviest rain storms have been tropical storms (ts allison?i think comes to my mind first) movement has alot to do with that but not even completely. it is still unkown how to tell how much rain a storm will dump but a tropical storm can dump more than some cat4. it all depends.

So, did Raleigh even get 2" of rain out of this event? WRAL's historical data says 0.54" for yesterday and 0.79" so far today.
9/1/2006 7:22:52 AM
I'm in Va Beach and we are getting dumped on. Winds are sustained in the low 40s with gust in the low 60s. I saw a bunch of flash flooding on my way in to work. The parking lot at my townhouse was above my ankles this morning...my dog loved it...she dove it after every stick that floated by.The worst part isn't even here yet...we still have another half day to see how bad it gets.
9/1/2006 8:30:10 AM
^^That's all? It was pretty fucking wet Wednesday.
9/1/2006 8:40:59 AM
I'm in Myrtle Beach and all we got was some wind and some rain. I think my power flickered a few times.
9/1/2006 8:43:35 AM
^^ Yeah, I was surprised as well, but according to this:http://tinyurl.com/k9vlait's how much we got. I don't know where they take their measurements. That site reported only 5.5 inches during Alberto (06/14/06), but most everyone claims it actually rained 8 inches.
9/1/2006 8:56:48 AM
you know, these rainfall measurements are only point measurementsmeaning that it couldve been higher in some places, and lower in other places
9/1/2006 9:44:40 AM
My mom in Wilmington said that there was about 10 inches of water... flooded our yard really bad.
