So last week, damn thing was scratchin away (sounds) at my ceiling. My room is an addition to the house, so I don't have access to the attic, other than a man made hole in my closet. I toss rat poison up there, and the sounds go away for about a week.im thinking "hell yeah, he's gone now". But tonight what do ya know. Son of a bitch has returned with a vengeance. And he seem to be back scratching back at the same spot like what do I do now? If it was more than one, and the first poisioning killed some of his pals, then he won't eat the poison. That is, if it's a rat. Do squirells keep up such noise at night??[Edited on August 29, 2006 at 1:37 AM. Reason : .]

cheese with poison in it?
8/29/2006 1:38:02 AM
I did that the first time. I integrated penuts with rat poison, and tossed these golf ball sized pellets (poison) up there. I thought it worked b/c i didnt hear them for about a week?!?! now its back. wtf

way to go, now it has a vendetta
8/29/2006 1:52:54 AM
lol, thats not funny.I just served up another lethal dosage for that four legged fuck! It that dosnt work, then im just gonna waste money on pest control.

Using poison just makes it die in some place you cant get to and it smells up the place
8/29/2006 3:19:32 AM
lol, i bet you are trollinator and 3 of 11 too
8/29/2006 3:49:19 AM
use something that traps the critter so you can pull him out when dead instead of letting him rot where he falls
8/29/2006 6:24:11 AM
you are way to calm about this, i woke up one night at the lake to the sound of my neighbor takin out squirrels in his attic with a shotgun
8/29/2006 7:01:35 AM
was he having a vietnam flashback?
8/29/2006 9:33:19 AM
If its your attic, I would guess it is a squirrel. One of those damn things dug two holes in our drywall. If it isn't actually clawing through the drywall it could also be a bird flying around.

You need to get that poison that makes the rat thirsty and does not work undilt it drinks water. That way it goes outside drinks water there and dies there. If that thing dies in your attic its gonna smelll disgusting in your house.
8/29/2006 9:39:34 AM
I'm betting squirrels, not rats...rat's don't do attics, mostly
8/29/2006 9:48:44 AM
I agree, I had the same problem with squirrellsCall 1-888-488-1415, they will trap and set the critters free somewhere safe (if they can) and far away from your attichttp://www.aaanimalcontrol.com/Professional-Trapper/city/NC-Raleigh.htm

You don't need someone else to set up a squirrel trap. Just go ditch them in a park or on NCSU campus with the other crazy squirrels.
8/29/2006 11:26:52 AM
Could also be bats
8/29/2006 12:01:06 PM
It prolly a crackhead who got the wrong stuff and climbed in your attic and told to play a rat.
8/29/2006 12:52:54 PM
i think you got SNAKES ON THE ATTIC!
8/29/2006 12:55:43 PM
find where the rat is scratching aim your shotgun at that spot...profit
8/29/2006 12:58:34 PM
Look around your house's foundation, roofing, and siding to see if there are any holes. A rat could have climbed up inside the walling if it got into the basement/foundation area.

Got skeletons in your closet?
8/29/2006 10:15:27 PM
quit with the fucking poison already. you do not want that thing to die up there.

If it's just a little scratching it's probably mice. Also depends on if you've heard movement like walking around, and how loud that is. Like someone said, check the foundation vents for holes. Mice only need 1/4" and rats can get through 1/2-3/4". Try the poisoned seed packets you can get at Lowe's, and be aware it can take a month or more. You'll never get completely rid of mice - you just happen to finally be aware they're there. If you're really concerned, check with your landlord about getting a pest control service out there. If it was a squirrel you'd likely be saying that you hear a raccoon or something larger than a squirrel walking around up there, just b/c of the sound. I work in this exact field and that's what I've learned.

^ well they can't fit through that hole but they can chew it until they can at that size
8/30/2006 9:54:36 AM
I'd just try a simple old-school mouse trap with peanut butter as bait. I have had the exact same problem, and that catches any mice within a couple of days. You can get traps at Burke Brothers for less than $1.
8/30/2006 10:28:44 AM
probably a squirrel.
8/30/2006 4:11:18 PM
get one of the new electric rat traps, it will fry his rat asssss.
8/30/2006 4:37:01 PM
i just moved to this apartment friday, and i've either got a rat, a squirrel, or something in the ceiling. bastard woke me up last nighti told my roommate we got ghosts
8/30/2006 4:38:57 PM
lil feller diddn't keep up alot of noise last night. i was able to get rest. i think the poison is setting in. yeah, it must be mice.
8/30/2006 6:59:19 PM
When i was in college, my last year and a half i lived in a old ass house near campus, with 7 others. We had mice that would just come under the door. One roommate was scared of them and all of a sudden one time he was like yelling and on top of his bed cause a mouse showed up...he searched for it couldnt find it, then set a mouse trap....a couple hrs after that we heard a "bang" and the mouse was caught in his room....it was pretty funny how he reacted to a damn mouse in his room.
