So I'm trying to help install axles onto a CRX (1st time on fwd ) and the damn things just won't clip in. There's little c-rings on the ends of each axle which I assume would pop out at the right times and hold the axles in the housing. The splines on them seem to be lining up but we can't get that last half inch or so to go in and pop that c-ring. the passenger-side splines that go into the diff are a bit rounded and tapered at the tip, before the c-ring, but the driver-side splines look fineOk so what do we do?

it takes a pretty good tap to send em home, use a dead blow hammer or block of wood and hold the joints straight when you do it

What I do? I put a dab of grease on the clip, covering it entirely. Because the grease is stiff, I can center the clip reasonably well. This helps so you don't actually have the clip protruding so far that you shear the motherfucker off when you try to drive it home. Yes, I have done this. About 9 years ago. The axle then came out so far that it sheared off the very end (between the clip groove and the end) and sent it through the tranny casing.I "chunk" the axle into the diff. In other words I do a trial fit, then back up and thrust it in. I've also put the axle nut on the axle, put the socket on it, and hit it with a BFH or a dead blow hammer. Most of the time I have no problem chunkin' that bitch in. But then you know how big I am...
