If I were going to be purchasing a new bicycle from a shop this would not be a problem, but I am looking to get one used off of craigslist or the classifieds since I want a decent one but am short on funds.I see bicycles listed as 18", 20", and so on. How do I determine which size is right for me? gracias

go to a bicycle shop and have them tell you

I considered that but didn't want to be all, "can you waste your time sizing me so I can go purchase a bicycle elsewhere"if this is as simple as taking measurement from my nuts to the floor, I'd rather do it at home[Edited on August 23, 2006 at 3:58 PM. Reason : ;]

a bike shop is probably going to give you measurements in terms of cm. road bikes are measured in cm usually. regular old mountain bikes like you get at walmart are usually measured in inches. go to walmart and sit on a couple bikes and decide what you like. then get one off CL. then you waste no ones time but your own.

^Every high-end mountain bike I've ever seen has been measured in inches. But you're right, road and mountain bike frames have different measurements (the bottom brackets are at different heights). Look at the used bike buying guide on ebay. I'm 6' and ride a 19" mountain frame and a 56 cm road frame, but you should really try the bike out for yourself. Every brand varies in frame geometry and depending on your exact measurements, you may want different sizes when you switch between brands.

If you find a 25" frame on craigslist lemme know... hate being tall.
