8/22/2006 12:10:01 PM
gg enginbut looking at the boxscore, it looks like his only "key defensive plays" were his 2 rebounds haha
8/22/2006 12:11:10 PM
and we all know the box score shows the true nature of a game
8/22/2006 12:56:12 PM
yeah well when talking about defenseits steals, blocks and rebounds...pretty much everything defense IS represented in the box
8/22/2006 1:01:43 PM
^I hope that's a sacastic response
8/22/2006 1:02:31 PM
he had zero steals and zero blocksi guess its possible he made some deflections of course i'd like to see what this turkish newspaper said about his key defensive plays
8/22/2006 1:05:04 PM
its very possible to play good defense on your man (say to force a bad pass/turnover) or good help defense (say to cause a travel or something), and that isn't going to show up in the box
8/22/2006 1:06:46 PM
like i said i'd like to read the articleit just seems like saying he had some key plays is like when you take the kid from the team who isnt really good and give him the "hustle award" or the "sportsmanship award" because he's not good enough for MVP, defensive player of the year, etc
8/22/2006 1:14:31 PM
wtf. I'm sorry you feel that way
8/22/2006 2:04:13 PM
Dude, defense isn't all about steals and blocks.I'm not saying Atsur is a lockdown defender, but you certainly cannot judge defensive ability by looking at a box score.
8/22/2006 3:13:37 PM
again, thats why i would like to read this mystery article written in "turkish newspapers"
8/22/2006 3:45:59 PM
the turkish newspiece says "engin, who played his first minutes against Brazil, played critical role in both offense and defense"I didnt link the piece since its in turkish
8/22/2006 3:49:14 PM
any way of getting a google translation? i hope engin does great and i'm not knocking on him...but in 20 minutes of play here are his numbers:Minutes: 20FGM/FGA: 1/2FTM/FTA: 1/2ASSISTS: 4REBS: 2STEALS: 0BLOCKS: 0maybe he got all his numbers towards the end of the game to be key plays...but its not like his numbers were great
8/22/2006 3:54:26 PM

1st article:http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/spor/4960542.asp?m=1&gid=69&srid=3041&oid=1in the article it says "under Engin`s organization, the Turkish team passed the 27th minute mark leading 43-302nd articlehttp://www.milliyet.com.tr/2006/08/22/son/sonspo32.aspthe fourth paragraph from the end includes that coment I posted before about his critical roleLooks like he didnt play an outstanding game but it seems like he distributed the ball well, and didnt make any mistakes. Pretty much what he does here
8/22/2006 4:06:34 PM
yeah...hey are you in turkey or something or do you speak turkish to keep up with all that stuff?
8/22/2006 4:14:05 PM
i am turkish, and I go to State
8/22/2006 4:23:34 PM
cool
8/22/2006 4:25:00 PM
this is the only game he has played inbut he is a college player (a mediocre one at that) playing against a bunch of pros, what do you guys expect?

Engin was Turkey`s top scorer today against Qatar (Turkey played with the subs and rested the main stars since they already clinched the next round)..... http://www.fiba2006.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/scheResu/fe_scheStat_boxScor.asp?roundID=4742&groupName=C&gameName=11&eventID=3507&lid_6591_openNodeIDs=&langID=1&lid_6597_cp=&competitionCode=&langLC=en&season=&playerNumber=&teamNumber=&zone=gg Engin This international experience is gonna help him and the Wolfpack a lot in the upcoming season.
8/23/2006 8:28:57 AM
it'd be pretty sweet if Lowe set up some scrimmage games against some international competition for the preseason
8/23/2006 8:49:34 AM
A lot of teams used to do that, but the NCAA put a stop to all non-college opposition for basketball teams a couple years ago. That's why our preseason games now are Guelph and Fayetteville State as opposed to AAU teams.
8/23/2006 8:54:26 AM
the game report in the end of this article gave him 3 stars (highest in the team). the star system is a really popular grading method of performance in Europe and yet its amazingly arbitrary and subjective. Still, looks like he had a pretty solid game.. http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/spor/4965294.asp?m=1&gid=69&srid=3048&oid=1
8/23/2006 11:37:58 AM

Engin would get more media-love if he just pump-faked Bulgarian style before each shot. That's it... give the fake so your defender has time to rotate over and slap that ball back..... FADER!!!!J/K.... we need him this season more than ever. I hope the competition helps his game.
8/23/2006 10:50:26 PM
TYRKYSH DELYGHT
8/23/2006 11:00:08 PM
Engin needs to be a more emotional leader, maybe he can be one in this new "run-freely" offense.I wanna see him punch guys in da nuts!

Just a minute later he hit another three-pointer - this one well behind the line - to pull Turkey within 79-77"He (Engin Atsur) doesn't have a big experience at international level, but he's got a big heart and you see that on the court today," Erdogan said of Atsur. gg Engin "EN BUYUK TURKIYE"
8/26/2006 10:53:35 AM
oo, by the way. this was an elimination game and with this game Turkey is in the quarterfinals now. And the Slovenian team that he played against is a solid team with 4 NBA players
8/26/2006 10:55:01 AM
Engin's only clutch when he is around other turkeys
8/26/2006 11:04:01 AM

after a weak performance against Argentina, Engin had a solid 25 minutes/9 points against Lithuenia in an overtime game.http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/06_wcm/scheResu/fe_scheStat_boxScor.asp?roundID=5151&groupName=73&gameName=A&eventID=3507&lid_6591_openNodeIDs=&langID=1&lid_6597_cp=&competitionCode=&langLC=en&season=&playerNumber=&teamNumber=&zone=some pics of engin from the gamehttp://galeri.milliyet.com.tr/2006/8/31Turkiye__Litvanya/26.jpghttp://galeri.milliyet.com.tr/2006/8/31Turkiye__Litvanya/13.jpghttp://galeri.milliyet.com.tr/2006/8/31Turkiye__Litvanya/7.jpghttp://galeri.milliyet.com.tr/2006/8/31Turkiye__Litvanya/3.jpg
