I drive commute to RTP everyday and noticed begining on Monday of this week that I-40 is littered with excessive K-band. I have an Escort 8500 and it usually goes off 3 times between Wade Ave and the Durham Freeway with intense short bursts that only last a few seconds. I'm guessing these are traffic cameras and such. This week is completely different. The signals are detected much farther away and obviously last a long time. I'd say right now I'm picking up signal for 1/3 of the above mentioned stretch. I double checked my settings and all are the same.Has anyone else noticed a change this week?

Ive never really paid attention to it, but that same shit has started to happen on I-95, Ill get short full strength bursts on the X or K band, its annoying as shit.

yeah i have noticed the same thing. i have an Escort 8500 as well and I drive to Durham everyday for work and have noticed the exact same short bursts of Ka band along I-40. I dunno whats up.

Noticed the same thing on the way to RTP this morning and also on the way to Chapel Hill after work. Tons of strong K band between South Point and exit 273 for some reason.

well the first section could partially be explained by the airport and its massive amounts of radar.but the other part i dunno
8/16/2006 11:32:10 PM
well the airport has always given off signal so I have gotten use to that... it has only been recently that the Ka band has been going wild.... I don't know if the beefed up security at the airport the past few days would have any affect... I doubt it but I can't think of anything else

well we are on like code purple everyone is gonna die full body cavity terror alert
8/16/2006 11:56:35 PM
lol
8/17/2006 12:06:04 AM
several people have told me the same thing, i think new traffic cameras were added.
8/17/2006 12:12:41 AM
Glad to know I'm not the only one. I was wondering if it was intentional to overload radar detectors so drivers would be easier targets.
8/17/2006 6:32:48 AM
Ive had the same thing happen to me with K band all along I-40. There was a thread on here about traffic cameras setting off radars, and I just assumed it was that everytime. I have a bell radar detector.
8/17/2006 10:01:56 AM
its only been doing that for about 6 months now get a v1.
8/17/2006 10:13:26 AM
^Have you been on that stretch of I40 this week? It's clearly not the same. Does your V1 ignore it?
8/17/2006 7:23:21 PM
my V1 will sometimes pick up other radat detectors that are usually k band
8/17/2006 7:34:31 PM
yae thats what mine does, normally anyone with xenon lights it picks up their radar...i figure if they have xenons they prolly have a radar det.

8/17/2006 10:17:58 PM
i only slow down when i catch a Ka band which has a different ring than the X and K on my Beltronics 965

hmm I need to get in the know on this.i commute to state from durham every day for classes, i usually take 147 to 40 in the mornings and 40 to 15-501 in the afternoons. I'm going against all the traffic, so it's not so bad, but i really need a detector. the only thing saving my ass is my state troopers association/fraternal order of police magnets. i was driving 68 down wade past rbc the other month with a cop following for about 1/4 mile...he did not pull me over. i just got in the other lane, he gave me a *look* when he passed me and sped on up ahead. $24 a year to donate for the magnet, good investment.
8/17/2006 11:55:59 PM
you're an idiot. a radar detector is not going to save you. speed smart or get a ticket.
8/18/2006 12:49:45 AM
A FOP sticker never saved me in the past.
8/18/2006 1:13:50 AM
speeding on 40 is easy, its not like you can speed near cops anyway when everyone in front of you slows to 65 because they see a cop
8/18/2006 7:50:21 AM
^^why would it?
8/18/2006 8:05:39 AM
yeah i heard cops hate patrolling the I-40 corridor from raliegh to the RTP. there isn't very much room to hide out and wait for speeders, then with traffic congestion usually pretty strong it hinders there ability to catch people

see post... http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=426716Traffic camera's is the assumption. Hidden behind signs, under bridges, on the sides of those huge poles that hold those gigantic green signs above the highway... Yeah, their everywhere...
8/20/2006 8:05:00 PM
Well the increased K band seemed to be temporary that week. Now it is back to normal.
8/26/2006 4:16:33 PM
Probably this: http://www.ncdot.org/doh/operations/dp_chief_eng/its/aboutITS/devices.html#TrafficFlowDetectionTraffic Flow Detection....I've been noticing the construction of little devices on poles aimed at specific lanes and I'm thinking that it could be a radar device to automatically detect traffic.
8/26/2006 11:22:31 PM
will it end ever?
