They're mostly looking for CE and ME grads for municipal projects - roads, parks, ect. I don't know what the pay is like (probably not great considering it's the city govt.)

Sorry I can't give more info on the job, but I figured I'd put the notice out there. PM me if you want contact info of the fellow in charge, he can tell you more.

You'll just have to engineer yourself a bulletproof vest.

Haha, I saw plans to put a 22 mile bike/running trail starting at the Durham Athletic Park and running to Wake County http://www.triangletrails.org/ATT.HTM but have these people ever been to downtown Durham? No one is going to run on that thing, it's a recipe for women to get raped and everyone to get mugged. I grew up in Durham, and yeah it's a dump.

Right now the trail goes from Southpoint to the Durham Bulls stadium, and lots of people use it. It's always packed when I'm there.

The murder rate was 16.0 for every 100,000 people in Durham in 2004.

http://www.city-data.com/city/Durham-North-Carolina.html

Los Angeles was 14.0 per 100,000.

NYC was 7.1 per 100,000.

D.C. was 34.6 per 100,000.

Philly was 21.7 per 100,000.

The main point is that Durham has a large murder rate considering that its population isn't that large. It's rape numbers are pretty significant as well.
