i was thinking of buying one of these bad boys and was wondering if anyone has used one of these oncampus and had any problems w/ the ncsu cable and/or have any recommendations on a specific card.

yes people have been using them on campus for at least 7 years.no, there are no problems using one with ncsu cable or any other cable.Anything from Hauppauge is good, a lot of people also go with the Leadtek WinTV 2000XP/Deluxe

do yourself a favor and don't buy a usb tuner if you can avoid it

wasn't planning on it. i have a tv and all so it's not a necessity, i mainly just want one for recording.

i've been using a hauppauge wintv one, it's not bad, but it might take a few installs to get the drivers workingi also use beyondtv 4, don't use the bullshit software that comes with it, it's garbage

The Hauppauge WinTV and the Leadtek are pretty good if you want a software encoder, if you want hardware I suggest Hauppauge PVR-150, its a really good card. I also second Beyond TV.
