can you still buy a satellite dish and use one of those cards to get free service, or is there some sort of technology preventing this? i was thinking about it and was just curious.

FTA boxes have been down for more than a month now since Dish Network started a new encryption system. Who knows when'if they'll ever be up again. You can still buy a DN receiver and Rom102 access card and use a card programmer to get free TV, but its definately illegal and expensive as hell to boot (~500 for everything).

Shouldn't be illegal. If they don't want me to view the signals get them the hell out of my yard.

if it's in my yard, it's mine

directv recently sent out all new access cards (like 2 yrs ago, so not too recently), and i dont think theyve figured out how to clone the cards yet

i thought it wasn't illegal? technically thier satilites are just beaming the info down it's not a crimnal act to catch the signal.

It's bypassing the encryption that gets you.
