My models have to have a radio and an engine and be capable of flight. And I haven't picked up my planes in a year...not since wife and I separated.
8/11/2006 12:08:20 AM
those are cool too, but i like the for show kind
8/11/2006 12:12:37 AM
I like those as well, but I just don't have time to finish them like I prefer.
8/11/2006 12:13:36 AM
I'm big into modeling, but only when I can scrounge up enough money to buy a quality model.I'm pretty interested in getting an airbrush someday to take it up to the next level. Testors (I think) has a really cool series of videos on how to paint models with them.
8/11/2006 12:18:41 AM
yeah i have a decent collection... but i'm usually too lazy to paint them... so they are that grey color still...mostly ships, waterline series modern or world war II ships. really funky japanese heavy cruisers...i haven't done a plane in a good bit....haven't exactly had the motivation to buy all the paint that's necessary either I'll take some pics and such of my 'masterpieces' some are quite complex actually, like the sidepaddle steamer, model...off the top of my head I have 4-5 modern destroyers / cruisers water line type from russia, japan, and the US, 3 submarines, F-15, MiG-25, Su-something, Mirage 2000, an old single engine monoplane british fighter, B-25 mitchel, USS Arizona, USS North Carolina, USS Missouri, HMS Victorious (brit carrier), 3 japanese heavy 3 Light cruisers and 4 destroyers wwII (water line), USS Lexington (converted essex class), an early generation british jet fighter, A-10, German Half-Track (really small), ]
8/11/2006 9:21:39 AM
painting is half the fun and it makes them look a lot more real
8/11/2006 3:20:06 PM
oh i dont doubt itjust never had the resources to buy all the different paints to make it worth it really....

8/12/2006 2:19:44 AM

8/12/2006 11:18:07 PM
I know there's one in Crabtree by that petstore. And one in Hanes Mall near Sears if you're in the Winston-Salem area.
8/12/2006 11:22:50 PM

8/12/2006 11:23:40 PM

8/15/2006 11:18:45 PM
nice job, are you using the liquid glue that you 'paint' on? I found that to be the best for making seems without excessive marring...http://www.hungates.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=H&Product_Code=100765201&Category_Code=Model_Accessories_Other[Edited on August 16, 2006 at 8:18 AM. I would really like a nice FFG (frigate) or DDG (destroyer) model.. but it doesnt seem like local hobby stores carry any.
8/17/2006 12:55:22 AM
you have to find a 'water line' version... they are pretty small and dont have the lower part of the hull, thus they look like they are 'in the water'http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/e-w/E-index.htmwwII and some modern ships i think...http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/e-w/ITEMLIST/WL.htmhttp://tamiya.com/english/scale/index.htm another waterline series maker, mostly wwII ships thoughhttp://www.aoshima-bk.co.jp/scripts/eng/shohin-eng.aspx?id=256 yet another maker (seeing the trend?) alot of wwII ships and a few moderns....I know someone makes US moderns but i can't seem to find it yet ]

I build model airplanes. All 1/72. Right now I have 19 on my shelves, and another 3 under construction. Great paintjobs. What kind of airbrush are you using? Also, why Skyhawks?
8/17/2006 5:32:06 PM
Thanks. I use to have an old single action (only like $14 with can of air), but then I bought a compressor, and I recently bought a double action Badger 150 airbrush, and I look forward to doing more complicated camo schemes. My favorite a/c is the P-47, so I've got 3 completed kits and 3 more in the works. I like the lines of the skyhawk also. Mostly, i try to find kits for good value. Joshua

One of the best online tools I found for modeling is www.finescale.com. Everything you need to know. You can find me online there as "jabbe" I'm sure there are a few ppl out there that think building "toy" airplanes is silly, but I enjoy it. I love aircraft, always have. I got back into it myself just a year ago. Joshua
