And I had it coming, I know this. I was driving someone else's car, and the cop never asked for proof of insurance. Is this abnormal?I've already been told they tend to be more talkative than this cop:"Do you know why I pulled you? Okay, license and registration plz."..."Here's your ticket. Your court date is [date]. Any questions? Okay. Keep your seat belt on and quit speeding".[Edited on August 8, 2006 at 7:51 PM. Reason : -4-]

Thats pretty normal.I've gotten pulled over 6 times, gotten 4 tickets, and I've never been asked for my proof of insurance. And for some reason I still only have 2 points on my license.
8/8/2006 7:51:03 PM
What's a proof of insurance?I thought you're supposed to call your insurance company whenever you need proof.
8/8/2006 7:51:19 PM
you only need proof of insurance if there is an accident.Your insurance company should give you a card that gives your policy limits, policy number eteget a lawyer.[Edited on August 8, 2006 at 7:52 PM. Reason : ]]

8/8/2006 7:53:53 PM
are you supposed to carry those cards?I have needed proof once for my drivers license, and I just called Geico and they faxed it to th DMV within 2 minutes.
8/8/2006 7:53:58 PM
yes - it should be on your registration though
8/8/2006 8:01:30 PM
hmmmm
8/8/2006 8:02:21 PM
ANYTHING OVER 9 OVER WILL AFFECT YOUR INSURANCE
8/8/2006 8:05:31 PM
8/8/2006 8:14:38 PM
You're just lucky he didn't send you to pound-you-in-the-ass Federal Prison.
8/8/2006 8:30:01 PM
i paid my ticket for going 9 over and i ended up gettting 2 points on my license....dunno about other peoples cases though... that was just mine
8/8/2006 8:48:31 PM
little booger...
8/8/2006 9:23:24 PM
^^ I think you can only have one 9 over every three years to not have insurance impact.
8/8/2006 9:47:42 PM
Anyone know what the DMV point/Insurance points are for running a stop sign?
8/13/2006 12:34:15 AM
^ i dunno the point value, but thats *way* more serious than speeding"Failure to obey a traffic control device"your insurance rates will probably double.[Edited on August 13, 2006 at 1:27 AM. Reason : ]
8/13/2006 1:26:17 AM
aren't speed limit signs traffic control devices?not trying to be an ass here, this is the lounge; I've never been in trouble while in control of a vehicle, so I have no knowledge of the lingo.
8/13/2006 1:56:17 AM
Don't you have to have proof of insurance to even get a driver's license or your registration? So wouldn't asking for proof of insurance along with the other two be over-kill? Unless there has been an accident that needs to be filed, of course.
8/13/2006 2:14:59 AM
The car you use for the road test has to be legit. Not everyone uses a car that they own.
8/13/2006 2:44:38 AM
the cops normally ask for proof of insuranceand yes gargs you need to have it in your car at all times pretty much
8/13/2006 3:35:19 AM
8/13/2006 11:13:04 AM
your registration is your proof of insurance
8/13/2006 11:45:38 AM
makes sense about the registration being the proof of insurance. So what happens if you modify your insurance (company/coverage). Do you get a new policy number or does it remain the same?
8/13/2006 11:54:30 AM
i been pulled 4 times and never asked for proof of insurancei got a 55/35 dropped to 9 over by just talking to the DA, talk to the DA refuses to do so, just get a continuance, and call up a lawyer
8/13/2006 1:33:50 PM
^^ probably need a new card, you just ask the ins. company u change to
8/13/2006 1:38:18 PM
they can tell if you've got insurance or not when they run your tag. insurance companies are required to report to the dmv when your coverage is dropped, and it will "mark" your tags. most companies also report to the dmv when new coverage is started, but it's still a good idea to take proof when you register a vehicle. all of your neccessary info is on the registration card (company name and policy number).

8/14/2006 12:49:54 AM
i love it when dumbasses say that it doesnt count anything against you when they drop it to 9 over...it doesnt cost you a license point, but it WILL cost you an insurance point. period. end of discussion.dont believe me? get a printout of what your insurance company has on your record and you will get a hell of a wakup.get a damn lawyer, shell out a couple hundred for the service and the court costs and actually beat the ticket instead of being a dumbass.
8/14/2006 7:15:16 AM
8/14/2006 7:52:40 AM
don't get a lawyer......honestly, what can a lawyer do that you can't? Just dress in a nice suit, go AFTER their lunch break, admit guilt (THEY KNOW YOU"RE GUILTY, THE OFFICER SWORE ON IT AND THEY HEAR RETARDED ANNOYING EXCUSES ALL DAY LONG), and offer a retribution for complete dismissal of the case, such as 20 hours of community service. You may not want to do the comm. service, and thats fine, but dont bitch with your insurance goes up 40% for 3 straight years all b/c you forgot to slow down between that damn 45mph/35mph change on Gorman street near the avent ferry intersection where cops hide in the bushes.
8/14/2006 8:37:59 AM
Comm service? He had to have been arrested (doing way over 20mph+) for that to happen.
8/14/2006 9:33:51 AM
8/14/2006 10:28:29 AM
booger, are you saying you got that ticket at that 45/35 change on avent ferry? I had no idea.....lol....i hate that spotsorry if i came off a bit harsh, the simple thing is, you want to do everything you possibly can to stay out of court and off your record, because it just isn't worth it in the long run. I dont know how bad your ticket was, but do everything you can from keeping it off your insurance, which includes community service if you have the option.
8/14/2006 10:46:13 AM
I got it just before the change. I was going 13 over.Somehow, I don't think I'll be able to get out of this completely.
8/14/2006 10:48:34 AM
i just got pulled on saturday for going 48 through a 35... there was a cop in front of me too, and i was keeping pace with him... then im at a stoplight and lights turn on behind me, its an unmarked blue impala. such bullshit...im taking the driving class wed nite so i dont get any points on my license or insurance... 4 hr class and i have to pay the fine.
8/14/2006 12:11:54 PM
8/14/2006 6:01:37 PM
^ no shit, i got less community service than that for eluding and resisting, pay a lawyer $350 get it reduced to a non-moving, pay the fine and court costs and let it go. your insurance will go up more than that, and a radar detector would have paid for itself with one ticket
8/14/2006 6:13:55 PM
yall really think a lawyer will help?I'd always been told that for minor tickets, lawyers are a waste of money. Will student legal services be of any use in this situation?
8/14/2006 6:47:28 PM
828-5776
8/14/2006 6:48:58 PM
^^you've been told wrong. a lawyer will only cost you ~200-300 bucks including court costs, etc. hell of a deal compared to insurance increases.
8/14/2006 10:13:56 PM
i just got some shit dismissed monday, and hope to get some more thrown out on the 24th
8/15/2006 8:53:44 PM
