Here's the deal, I have a firebird with a v6 engine and related gm 4l60e auto tranny. After i get going for a while(usually a couple of hours) if i have to slow down and the car shifts from 1st to 2nd then its a pretty hard jerk. It finally threw a problem code a p1870.. i was reading up on the firebirdv6 forums and they said that i just needed my valve body updated and my transmission was probably fine. Well i talked to a guy at a transmission shop today and he didnt even look at the car and just said that updating that valve body wont do it, ill need to basically redo the whole tranny. So does anyone know of some trustworth transmission places in the area that i can at least get a second opinion from?

guy a tranny shop might just say that bc he wants to update ur valve body and charge u the price for a whole rebuild. people on car specific forums usually know what they are talkin about

5 speed isnt really an option.. it would be nice but i cant do it myself and i dont have the money to pay someone to do it. toyota yea thats kinda what i was thinking thats why im asking if anyone knows of any trustworth place that i can get a second opinion

Where did you get your first opinion?

^^ you could get a shop around here to do a 5 speed swap with a junkyard tranny for cheaper than going to the dealer to get it rebuilt. I know Carolina Auto Masters does GM shit and charges only $60/hr for labor.Wouldn't a rebuilt tranny installed be like a minimum of 2 grand?

umm.. i think it was called Pro-Tech transmissions.. on pleasant valley rd over right off glenwood kinda across from the walmart and all that. the thing about the swap is.. from what i had read on firebirdv6 it was gonna be like a $300 fix because several other people had the same problem. so when this dude says that valve body update wont fix it and he's thinking $1200 then i was surprised and thought i had better find another opinion. I dont think 1200 was for a complete rebuild because that would be a pretty good deal.. he said something like the last car that had a similar problem cost about that. anyway im looking for someone who can tell me for sure whats up so i dont drop 1200 that i dont have on something that is not needed.
