Anyone know the plans for our new soccer stadium, formerly Derr Track? Looks like construction just started and it will be finished in time for next year's season. Just curious if anyone knew what it was going to look like. I havent heard much about it. Here's a GoPack.com article about it:http://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=41857&SPID=3720&DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=529452

so they are really trying to fit a softball field in that little spot by Morrill/Cates?

well they are tearing up the existing track and field complex and building a new track with a soccer field in the middle of the track and building a softball field next to it.

i wonder if the worldcup being so recent will draw a soccer crowd this year. i've been thinking about it, myself, at risk of being a bandwagon-er.

I think holding games on campus would be a much bigger boost than any World Cup blip. Being consistently competitive in the ACC would also help.

At least its easier for the wolfpack clubbers to get points now.

The only reason that any mainstream sports fan in America was talking about the World Cup was because of Zidane's headbutt. American success in the World Cup (or the act of hosting) has helped increase the popularity of soccer in the US on the whole, but the occurance generally does not pick up new fans one by one. However, now that someone will be able to walk right out of their dorm and catch a soccer game, I think regular attendance will double. I can't tell you how many midweek baseball games I watched when Doak reopened just because I lived in Sullivan and it was right there. I love soccer, but I had a hard time justifying jumping in the car or waiting for the bus to ride out to Method twice a week.

will the field still be available for students, staff, and the public to use when there isn't a game or class going on?

If they care at all about the integrity of the playing surface, they won't.Then again, Method is no Highbury, so who knows?P.S. I would kill to play on a field like that one at Highbury (R.I.P.).
