The first one still scares me. There are just really good scary elements that I wish more movies had. For example, the ability of the creepy Japanese ghost chick to follow the victim anywhere without requiring a medium. Like Freddy needing dreams, the girl from the Ring using the tv, etc. The methodical nature of the "ghost". When it was chasing the one lady up her stairs and grabbed her keys and then let go but was just watching her as the door slowly closed. That hit home for me. It wasn't just ramdom hack and slash or blind chase as is the case with most other horror movies.

Ju-On scared me. I never realized a movie could be that bad.
8/6/2006 4:38:23 PM
I am pretty sure it isn't a sequel. Its just a movie with the same plot background.
8/6/2006 5:00:49 PM
shrug, even if it is only called the grudge 2 thats good enough for my lax definition of sequel. either way it says right on imdb that the girl is related to the last one.

Jon, what are you talking about of course it had a plot!!!The girl was mistreated in life, so she wants to kill everyone in the house, and some people not in the house, and maybe random people who come in for no reason.
8/6/2006 7:27:51 PM
diz is how we do. we kill dem fools when dey come up in our clubz.
8/6/2006 9:01:07 PM
At least cat boy is still in it. He tripped me out.
8/6/2006 9:40:37 PM

8/6/2006 9:55:22 PM
Its pretty obviously a sequel
8/6/2006 10:09:19 PM
Oh, I see I see. I was talking about the movie, "The Return".http://imdb.com/title/tt0433442/They had a preview for it before "The Descent". It starts off with the same Grudge tagline about some terrible death happening and leaving an imprint . . . and it stars Sarah Michelle Gellar. I thought you were referring to it. No trailer online yet, but should be one soon enough.

little asian boys scare me
9/26/2006 1:49:49 PM
btttJust went and saw it. I know that I am probably the only one that was scared by the first one and likewise with this one. I had some 'wtf are the doing?' thoughts during some of the inconsistancies. But I still thought it was excellent. I thought for just a moment that this might be like the Ring 2 where I cheered for Somara to mess some people up, so when the girls went inside the house on a dare I wanted them to get pwnt but that quickly changed. Has anyone who knows a bit about Shinto seen the original Japanese versions or seen this and/or the first one?

I thought this movie blew...I think the director is talented in the horror genre...however, the writing/story is just lacking. Not enough there for a whole movie... too many slow parts...then they try to wrap things up at the end and it was stupid. There were a handful of good thrilling/horror moments that really scared some small children...
10/14/2006 1:11:48 AM
i havent seen eitherwhat's the deal with the random fingers in hair, etc

STUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPID MOVIE.but to be fair ill list my complaints:1. too much trying to create an actual plot. ends up just sounding dumb, "oh no dark spirits!!!" much like an action movie, writers need to pick a simple concept and roll with it.2. way too drawn out. i got bored halfway through wondering when the hell it was going to end.3. bad acting, particularly by the school girls...no surprises.4. no real climax. bad combo with #2.5. side stories were unnecessary besides trying to make the movie seem clever by "pulling it all together" towards the end.ultimately, i didnt like the first one, but i was hoping for another Underworld, where the second was leagues above the original. instead it just seemed like a disjointed sequence of the same kill scenes replayed with different characters.[Edited on October 14, 2006 at 11:30 PM. ^ did you just say that underworld 2 was better than... anything? because that is a filthy lie and you know it.
10/15/2006 12:48:33 PM
then you havent seen underworld 1[Edited on October 15, 2006 at 12:51 PM. Reason : UW1 was thoroughly disappointing. 2 wasnt good, but was better than 1.]

This was the WORST movie I have ever seen in theatres. Anybody in this thread that says otherwise needs to GTFO. Spoilers included.I figured it would have a bad plot. I figured it really wouldn't go anywhere. However, what I liked about the first movie was its cheap (but very effective) scares and its willingness to kill off characters in a blink. I figured "Hey, if it has this similar format, it will be worth the money."But no. There was a random killing in the beginning that pretty much had nothing to do with the rest of the plot, then the obligatory kill-off-the-previous-main-character bit (like 25 minutes later), then it was another 20-30 minutes before the next character died. Deaths were few and far in between plus they were typically quick off's with little build-up, unlike some of the better sequences from the first (IE the sister who called the house). And then, at the end, EVERYBODY DIES! And you don't even get to see the creepy ghosts doing it half of the time, they are just lying there dead or you see their spirit.Plus they took a simple plot where a horrible death left a vengeful spirit behind and turned it into a "ZOMG her mother took the essences of evil spirits and trapped them in side of her when she was a child!!!11one". And who else loved the 30-40 minutes that they spent on the whole mother backstory just to kill her off in an unexciting way without learning anything new and leaving us back at square one?I want my money back.[Edited on October 15, 2006 at 10:01 PM. Indeed. Poor execution on a very good concept. I know it's just me but the vengeful kami (the ghost chick) is probably the scariest looking "bad guy" out of any scary movie I have seen. The second movie has a terminal flaw in that it's premised on the idea that the "ghost" (term used very loosely and only for simplification) is out and will continue to steal souls without end and now without provocation. This ultimately means that given our six degrees of separation to Kevin Bacon we are all toast and thus by suggesting so brings futility to the outcome.
