anyone seen it yet?i thought the worst part was when the girl was physically stuck in the tunnel...that messed with me the most, just because that kinda shit can really happenas far as the creatures, the only part that sorta freaked you out was when they were first seen, drinking from that poolover all i thought it was an alright movie...for the scenario and setting i thought it was done pretty well, fairly grainy feel to itafter the first two times of seeing the creatures it was sorta like "ehh...monsters "i think it would have been better if there had been some explanation of their originalso, the theater (crossroads) environment wasnt the greatest...the other people in the theater didnt freak out and add to the effect....at a couple points there was laughter from the audience at some of the "scary" parts

Sounds like the m to f ratio in the theater was a tad off.

Really fun horror movie after 30-45 minutes of pointless female bonding in the "meet the characters who are going to die" segment.I recommend it.

Just so all of you know, The Descent is a great horror movie.I wasn't expecting much, but it fucking delivered - the flick is ruthless. Loved all 1 hour 30 minutes of it.Is it just me, or is Lions Gate Films making an assload of quality horror/thriller pics? The studio seems totally devoted to the genre....
8/6/2006 2:54:59 AM
I really liked The Descent...the trailer showed too many of the ..omg creepy.. scenes though. It is one of those movies that would have been truely more scary if I hadn't seen the trailer.
8/6/2006 3:12:11 AM
about to see it
8/6/2006 3:39:14 AM
Lions Gate has been doing a lot of awesome stuff.I first started noticing about 5 years ago when i was really pleased with Frailty.ps. not enough people have seen or even heard of Frailty

yea, lions gate and twisted pictures are the heat
8/6/2006 9:46:59 AM
No , I've never seen hills have eyes....but once they bought Artisan they formed a great movie company. I know notably some of their horror flicks have been solid, among other genres. American Psycho, Blair With Project, Frailty, Hostel, Saw I, II, and III, The Devil's Rejects (underrrated, awesome movie), Cabin Fever, Open Water, High Tension, Ju-On (imported), and now the Descent. There's probably more I'm missing. A pretty respectible list for horror fans.
8/6/2006 11:14:55 AM
Haha, I never realized they did the blair witch project (witch has a part 3 coming out)[Edited on August 6, 2006 at 1:53 PM. Reason : which witch]
8/6/2006 1:53:23 PM
yeah i've liked LGF for my violent-gruesome horror for a while. they also have a shitty teenybopper prince and me type segment too though. ppl like to bring that up when i talk about liking lions gate.
8/6/2006 2:05:36 PM
that crash right off the start is way odd
8/6/2006 2:07:26 PM
A lot of those movies weren't so much made by lionsgate... more or less just distributed by lionsgate (especially the foreign movies: Open Water, High Tension, etc)Not an expert, could be wrong
8/6/2006 2:22:10 PM
HARD. CANDY.
8/6/2006 2:24:39 PM
ur right thorsten, but they have an eye for picking up things others have left.[Edited on August 6, 2006 at 2:33 PM. Reason : ^ no one would see it with me still...guesss im a perv]
8/6/2006 2:33:31 PM
distributing foreign films or picking up the rights to distribute other shops' films is just as good to me. I don't care if their own in-house does it or not, but all that matters is - who brings it to my local theatres. LGF does that with a shit ton of nice non-bluckbuster quality pics.

I loathe horror films that try too hard to develop a plot for the antagonist; it seems to be the cliche these days, tho.

sucked ass

it was one LGF that i was dissapointed with.
8/6/2006 9:00:31 PM
I just saw it tonight, it was better than i expected. there were a couple scenes where i was like "there is no way they filmed that on the east coast" ie. hiking in through a giant red wood forrest. i think they did a good job portraying the sense of claustrophobia, especially in the scene where she gets stuck. i agree, after seeing the gollum-like creatures a couple of times, they lost thier shock effect. i i think it would have been better if you never actually saw them or only caught a few glimpses. but i guess that would have made for a different type of movie.
8/6/2006 10:19:59 PM
I just got the DVD delivered - will be watching tonight.
8/6/2006 10:27:20 PM
holy shit. I thought this movie was awesome.incredibly wild, thrilling, crazy, whatever...one thing i can say about this movie: It's exactly what the previews promised.if you saw this movie and didn't like it, then you're basically an idiot because you should have known what you were getting into.
8/7/2006 1:44:21 AM
you know it's a book too
8/7/2006 8:38:06 AM
wait, how is this already on dvd?
8/7/2006 7:17:57 PM
^ it's a british film
8/7/2006 7:24:29 PM
I am pretty sure this movie was filmed in england and scotland. The only thing that bothered me was the North Carolina Tag on the front of the BMW and the Bronco had a Montana Tag and a Massachusetts Tag Overall I enjoyed this movie very thrilling and intense.
8/7/2006 8:13:55 PM
The ending it was released with in the UK (it was released there a year ago) is different than the one showing here. I suggest you all who have seen it to look at/read about the other ending...it's interesting. I wonder why they changed it for the States...?
8/7/2006 10:08:58 PM
spoiler alerti read about the UK ending today at work. i would have been a little let down with everyone dying, especially after a dream sequence. that's just too convenient. to me dream sequences are only appopriate in soap opera's and sitcoms. the main character surviving with additional personal ghosts leaves you coming away at the end with a greater sense of the overall theme of the movie. end spoiler alerti wonder if they'll release a dvd with both endings?
8/8/2006 12:10:51 AM
SPOILER ALERTO SHIT Y'ALL IT'S GOLLUMSEND SPOILERS
8/8/2006 12:12:49 AM

it was watchable. i think the close cave quarters were more scary than the monsters. i said "fuck that" early on when they started crawling through that passage.i had a helluva time keeping the blonds apart once everyone started getting split up/attacked though.
8/8/2006 2:06:08 PM
8/8/2006 2:29:48 PM
This movie could replace the doom movie easily.
8/8/2006 2:31:24 PM
pretty intense i thought - the broken leg had some nice imagery - the ending was a little weak i thought though
8/8/2006 10:10:24 PM
i didn't like this movie. didn't see a trailer either, but I was genuinely scared for 2.2 seconds. The ending sucked ass, the beginning was like wtf? so yeah, carry on...
8/8/2006 10:28:30 PM
I've heard that this is the worst movie possibly ever made. I think I'll wait till I see it flipping past FX one day.
8/9/2006 12:14:28 AM

8/12/2006 11:00:16 PM
^ hahaha, yea it didnt help i was with a femaleleast she thought it was cute, and at least i wasnt the only dude that had a chick calling em a bitch after the movie
8/12/2006 11:03:58 PM
I like this movie better when it was called THE CAVE.
8/12/2006 11:32:55 PM
You couldn't have really enjoyed the cave.SPOILERI like how the main chick channeled her anger about the affair into killing all the monsters in the last 20 minutes or so. She sure fucked poor Juno.
8/12/2006 11:46:17 PM
great movie. definitely intense. and gave me a couple scares too. i love lionsgate.
8/13/2006 2:00:20 AM
grr i gotsta see dis
8/13/2006 2:01:59 AM
[quote]"when the chuds (as i think they should be called) first came out, when the camera panned....the biggest scare a movie has ever given me, like I just outta my seat, made my fuckin heart thump out my chest, hahah" That shit was great...I mean...you kinda knew something was bout to happen w/ tha infrared camera...but I give them credit on being subtle about it till "holy shit...who tha hell invited gollum -lord of the rings- to the cave?"
