At what age did you start?
8/4/2006 4:14:23 PM
At whatever age their parents stopped parenting and left them to be influenced by losers.
8/4/2006 4:16:56 PM
^people cant just start smoking for the fuck of it?
8/4/2006 4:18:20 PM
I blame fucked up parents.
8/4/2006 4:18:50 PM

OK, so far I have:15I was sitting at work and I realized that I have never really heard of anyone starting in their twenties. I figured for most folks it was something they began in when they were teenagers.

8/4/2006 4:40:29 PM
^^^^^ Well you said that you "wouldn't really call" yourself a smoker and that you didn't smoke with "any degree of regularity" until your junior year. I suppose I should clarify the question. Those of you who smoke currently or did so for a prolonged period of time (>2 years); at what age did you try your first cigarette?[Edited on August 4, 2006 at 4:42 PM. Reason : .]

id say theres a difference between trying and smoking regularly. someone could hypothetically try it at 15, but not smoke regularly until their 20's. that said, again, my sister didnt smoke regularly until she was 24/25. i smoked enough where it'd have been a lie to say i didn't, but it was mostly social smoking (except maybe a 1 month period). much cheaper just to steal everyone elses anyways.

to answer your original questioni started at age 18, about a week before ncsu startedmy friends had recently gotten arrested for marijuana possession, and i really wanted to smoke SOMETHINGwaited over 4 months before smoking marijuana again, and by that time i was hooked to cigarettes

tried it when i was 17...did it on and off for id say a month...didn't consider myself a "smoker" because in that month I maybe smoked 1/4 of a pack of cigs altogether. I tried it again when I was 18...it was a completely social thing because at the time my best friend smoked. I never smoked by myself and never got remotely addicted.

Smoking has nothing to do with intelligence level. Nicotine actually helps in memory retention.I started to smoke at age 14 in order to increase my metabolism and reduce my desire to eat so I could maintain my wrestling weight.I'm 23 and still smoke. I enjoy smoking cigarettes. Very few things have the stress relieving factor as a smoke.

8/4/2006 8:19:00 PM
I started in Oct 2004, at the age of 27 years 7 months.I just quit 3 weeks ago, at the age of 29 years 4 months.During that 1 3/4 year period, I averaged 2 cigarettes a days.I started because of the influence of new friends I made, who smoke other stuff.
8/4/2006 8:25:28 PM
honestly i've had 6 cigarettes since i first posted in this thread
8/4/2006 8:26:59 PM
So I guess from the anecdotal evidence that I have seen here, folks will start smoking even in their late 20s. That's really not what I expected. I wonder if anyone has ever done a real study with a large group. I'll have to look that up.
