what is your goal? to sync multiple files up on 2 or more computers?

ftp typically isn't the best way to do this unless they are only in 1 directory

if they are and you really want to use ftp - i recommend flashfxp - ctrl-d removes duplicate files (but regardless of size) - you can setup transfer rules for files that already exist for files smaller/same size/larger

theres a folder on a web hosts server where a company store files (some as big as 200-300MB)

~10 users between 2 offices need to access these same files.

i thought about ftp sync programs, but decided against that. so at this point im thinking basic ftp access setup on each useres pc.

anyone have a better idea?

also, a question on security: Does netdrive use encryption? I've noticed some of the FTP programs use encrytpion and was wondering if the free products measure up.

you need an sftp server or an ftp server that supports ftp over ssl. eos/unity provides neither. you can use scp, but I don't know of any scp programs for windows besides winscp and secure shell

Not sure what you are trying to do, but you could mount your NCSU space as a drive, and flashfxp it as a local drive to wherever else it needs to go.

if you have ssh access, check out rsync. It's a commandline unix utility that backs up/syncs through a secure shell.

If the servers you have run unix, chances are it's already installed. If they run Windows, I'd check out cwRsync (http://www.itefix.no/cwrsync/). I use both the unix version (on my powerbook) and cwRsync on my XP desktop to backup my stuff to a backup machine, and it works beautifully.

I put it all in a script and set it up under crontab/systemscheduler, and every night at 3am both computers backup

Since there are so many users accessing these files, I've ruled out FTP Sync as a solution. I'm really looking for another solution here...Netdrive looked perfect but I've had problems setting it up. Any other ideas? I think I would like all 10 users to have a folder on their desktop where they could click it and be looking at the remote folder.

^Everything is windows based.

Are they all on the same network? Maybe just do simple file sharing then, and everyone works off of the remote directory.

If they're not on the same network, use a program like Hamachi and do the same thing.

vpn filesharing would do what you want, however I cannot endorse the ms software implementation of ipsec, it's trash
