I think i'm going to make/get made a custom header back exhaust for my car. I'd need a Ymerge off the two headers (3+3) to a cat, to a resonator, to the muffler. Its all aluminized steel except for the muffler which is SS and regular steel piping i believe. I'd buy mandrel bent piping and Ymerge beforehand and hopefully get everything i'd need. Can any of you guys fab this up? or should i consult the pros

bobs muffler to the rescue

Go see Bob. Or Henry.yeah, I've done exhaust work before, but unless it's cutting and welding and nothing else (no flaring, bending, expanding, etc) I ain't equipped to handle it currently.

another vote for bob's. i have had a couple of exhausts done by them in the last few months (2 different cars). They do nice work, they're quick, inexpensive, and good guys to boot.

Bob;s and Henry's are both good places for exh work. But for what you are talking I would goto R&J in apex

I'm interested in knowin' who the fuck around here does 4" exhaust work. Does R&J?
8/1/2006 11:14:44 PM
anyone know offhand of what the estimated cost would be to replace a 1-2ft long crimped section with just a simple cylinder

are Bob's and Henry's related? I called Henry's on Capital and spoke to a Bob.. hahhe said $200 at the very most to weld 'er all up if i supplied the muffler, res, cat. and mandrel bends.

should have kept your factory exhaust, dog
8/2/2006 3:11:31 PM
I hear Bob's has a mandrel bender. Does R&J? It would be easier to have them make the bends than ordering them.
8/2/2006 3:12:27 PM
R&J does but they wanted $350 to do the bends and installation. ^^yeh, im retarded. i dont know if i'll actually go through w/ this or not.. def not anytime real soon.

Youre talking about an M3 and putting a rigged exhaust on as cheaply as possible.See any issues with that?
8/2/2006 4:41:57 PM
nope. there's nothing wrong w/ thinking outside the box to get what you want/need for less. Some people will pay a premium for a name and simple bolt on install. some people will do the research, math, and the legwork for some custom stuff. *shrug*
8/2/2006 4:50:01 PM
some people will just piece together an exhaust, pay money for it, and loose power in the end.
8/2/2006 4:53:04 PM
some people. and some people are engineers and have read exhaust design books and know people w/ exhaust design experience and have advice from people w/ winning racecars
8/2/2006 4:56:09 PM
some people argue in the 3rd person instead of directly talking to them b/c they are gay
8/2/2006 4:57:30 PM
some people are convinced they can out engineer everyone else in any subject
8/2/2006 5:56:34 PM
Can R&J install headers? I have some bassanis I need installed.

look up carr industries from greensboro. they sell E36 M3 exhaust on ebay for like $420 shipped or you could just pick it up from them for $370+tax. there is a guy on ncdubs that works there. im guessing you know, but you really arent going to gain any power. obd2 m3 exhaust flows pretty good stock. you may see few hp up top. if you are going for sound than it's another story.[Edited on August 2, 2006 at 8:51 PM.
