Do we have any chance at ever getting a Super Bowl at BoA? The next few super bowls will be played in these locations:Super Bowl XLI - Dolphins StadiumSuper Bowl XLII - Cardinals StadiumSuper Bowl XLIII - Raymond James StadiumSuper Bowl XLIV - Dolphins Stadium
8/1/2006 2:09:19 AM
think about what February weather is like in those stadiums?
8/1/2006 2:16:13 AM
i think there should be more equality in choosing locations around the league. besides this is football. it's meant to be played in all forms of weather. i mean they play in cool-cold environments during the playoffs in January, why can't they play in them during the first week or so of February. no one wants to pay $500 to sit in the ice bowl
8/1/2006 2:27:10 AM
More importantly, when will the All-Star Super Skills be at the RBC Center?
8/1/2006 2:36:00 AM
apparently these are the qualifications a venue must have to host the Super Bowl:A potential venue currently must meet these qualifications in order to be a Super Bowl host: * Average high temperature of at least 50 degrees Fahrenheit in February. * Stadium with 70,000 seats or more. * Space for 10 photo trailers and 40 television trucks. * 600,000 square feet of exhibit space for fan events. * Large, high-end hotel for teams and NFL. * 50,000 square feet of space for news media ("Radio Row"). * Enough "quality" hotel rooms within a one-hour drive for 35% of the stadium's capacity. * Separate practice facilities for each team.Exceptions are at the discretion of the NFL.

^the climate exception is for indoor arenas
8/1/2006 6:02:24 AM
Kansas City was told they could host one if they could build a temporary cover for the stadium.
8/1/2006 7:52:54 AM
Dang, now only if the Miami Dolphins could get to a Super Bowl, that would be GREAT for them!(Highly unlikely though)
8/1/2006 8:02:34 AM
^^ Yeah, KC will host the 2012 one I believe. They just passed rennovations to both Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums. Arrowhead will be domed.
8/1/2006 8:33:41 AM
^ i think that fuckin stupid that they would dome Arrowheadit will make the place louder than it already is but I think you ruin a lot of the football experience with a dome
8/1/2006 9:50:56 AM
8/1/2006 9:53:09 AM
if we put a roof on it
8/1/2006 9:55:26 AM
the stadium would be fineits the lack of amenities in the vicinitynot enough hotels, roads, etcthe superbowl is a massive fucking productionbut as far as just the field, its just as good as any other nfl field as far as quality
8/1/2006 10:56:50 AM
tagliabue said charlotte was out because of the hotel capacity
8/1/2006 11:36:58 AM
downtown is growing pretty nicei see us getting an ACC football title game here in the next 5-6 years (ie after the Jaxtown deal is up and they re-evaluate)that will give a better idea of the city's capacity to carry a large sporting eventwe had the NBA All Star weekened in Charlotte somewhere between 91 and 93, cant recall, and it was fine...but its smaller than the Superbowl and it was out at the non-downtown Charlotte Coliseum
8/1/2006 11:39:08 AM
i think if charlotte can handle speed week and 2 huge races a year (i know the speedway is actually in concord, but its a charlotte event) The SB wouldn't be a prob (actually it would better prepare the city for another week+ event). Plus, if they knew that they were getting a SB in 5 or so years, they would fork out the money to make the necessary upgrades.
8/1/2006 12:43:54 PM
this makes about as much sense as holding the super bowl in Cincinnatti or Kansas City or Omaha, Nebraska. the whole point is to hold it in an attractive destination. thats why New Orleans and Miami have hosted the most.
8/1/2006 12:49:38 PM
^^yeah but none of that traffic really affects downtown Charlotte where the football stadium is2 different animals
8/1/2006 12:51:24 PM
Detroit is not attractive......they're talking about KC that's not attractive.........

why would people want to go to miami? oh, bc it's in the southern tip of florida with a lot of cool night life.why would people want to go to new orleans, oh bc it has an awesome night life and is in the south and has a lot of french stuffwhy would people want to go to san diego, oh bc it's in california, on the beach, and has cool night life and day life.why would people want to go anywhere else that most superbowls are at? oh, various reasons similar to those above.why would people want to go to charlotte? oh bc.........there are tobacco fields.....one of these doesn't fit with the others (hint, it's the one in bold ok?)

there arent any tobacco fields in charlottewhy would peopel want to go to miami? oh, to pay $20 for a can of bud light and get robbed by coke dealerswhy would people want to go to new orleans? oh, bc its the poorest city in the country and has lots of french stuffwhy would people want to go to san diego? oh, bc they suffer from insomnia
8/1/2006 1:02:17 PM
detroit is the home of motown and all that, at least they have museums and stuff, they have a catch at least.sorry to break it to you, but I bet kc has a LOT more to do around the city than charlotte, a LOT.i mean knoxville is way better than charlotte, and im sure kc is better than knoxville[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 1:04 PM. 8/1/2006 1:04:10 PM
i've been to KC..........not impressive.........who goes to the superbowl to visit museums? KC can't even get BBQ right. Never been to Detroit, but from what i've heard...........also not very impressive.
8/1/2006 1:08:03 PM
if people are going to be there for 3-7 days you have to give them shit to do, what would they do in charlotte, go outlet shopping?
8/1/2006 1:09:37 PM
give them 5+ years to prepare and you might be suprised.
8/1/2006 1:10:50 PM
well if they make some shit, maybe in 5+years they'll win a bid
8/1/2006 1:11:27 PM
i really think its more of a weather issue. its an area where it may be 70 degrees in feb., or there might be 2 inches of ice everywhere.
8/1/2006 1:14:11 PM
I believe MJ complained that Charlotte was a boring city to play in sometime during the mid-90's when he was with the Bulls; thus, it would also be too boring for the Super Bowl.
8/1/2006 1:16:54 PM
Where does MJ work now?
8/1/2006 1:18:23 PM
8/1/2006 1:20:59 PM
^ok, well what does charlotte have then? I mean I've been to charlotte, WHAT IS ONE THING REMOTELY CLOSE TO A TOURIST SPOT OR NIGHTLIFE IN CHARLOTTEoh yea they have like 2 bars at this one spot, it's mad crazy yo
8/1/2006 1:22:48 PM
KC is boring as shit man. Nothing there but flat land and a dirty missouri river. Oh it's so cool because it actually goes across two states. That's it.
8/1/2006 1:26:00 PM
Charlotte sure attracts hundreds of thousands of people for speed week every year. I guess they all just sit around complaining for a week about how they wish they were in Kansas City.
8/1/2006 1:26:18 PM
haha you didn't answer my question though
8/1/2006 1:26:30 PM
I dodged it, yes I'm not saying Charlotte is San Diego or Miami. But if they're considering KC and the super bowl will be in KC in 2012 given the roof addition, then they must consider Charlotte. And MJ didn't like it because there were no hooker for him to bang.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 1:29 PM. The 'things to do' really isn't a big deal. Charlotte wouldn't be terribly worse than Det, Jax, KC I imagine. Weather & Hotel capacity are BIG hurdles though. You can't have a SB be blacked out, with innaccessible roads, or have the seats & field covered in ice. If we would Dome/Retract. Roof BOA then we would probably be okay as far as that is concerned. Even just getting a temp. roof could work. But Charlotte simply doesn't have nearly enough hotel rooms to fill the needs of such an event. Jacksonville had this problem as well. However, Jacksonville was able rent cruise ships to serve as temporary hotel rooms, which is fine. Charlotte can't import 10,000 hotel rooms like Jax can though. And Charlotte would need at least that many more rooms to fill the void. And people coming in for speed week, camp out for the most part. They don't stay in hotels (because they aren't available). SB guests are not going to camp out though. So it's not a question of why would people come to Charlotte, it's where would they stay. Charlotte barely has enough rooms for speed week (even with most people camping), so why would they be able to handle a super bowl (which would require 50% more rooms). I guess Charlotte could build a new skyscrapper & use it as a hotel for the SB before converting it to office space, but would charlotte really be willing to do that?[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 1:36 PM. ^^and no legalized gambling...And, i don't know exactly what people would do in charlotte, just like i don't know exactly what they would do in tampa bay, or detroit, or KC, but if i went to a superbowl in any of these cities (including charlotte) i'm sure i could find plenty. I really don't think that is one of the major concerns for the nfl, its more of the city's prob......the city is the one losing the money if people don't spend.[Edited on August 1, 2006 at 1:34 PM. 8/1/2006 1:39:23 PM
KC did have casinos.
8/1/2006 1:40:06 PM
^ i would say that legalized gambling of some kind is a major plus for a host city. That we'll never have.
