Old topic is dead and can't be bumped.

I just started using Opera the other day, and I have come to the conclusion that Opera is way better. Mouse gestures are integrated and are not added on and work better than in FF, there is WAY more customization you can do with its interface, you just have to learn how to do it, and there's just so much more functionality. You have to use it for a day or two and learn some things before you get the hang of it.

FF is just very intuitive and caught on really quick, but Opera is the best if you take the time to really compare

i tried opera for about a week back when nc state started giving out licenses or whatever happened. i really didn't like it that much. better than IE just for tabs, but other than that, I did not enjoy my browsing experience. I prefer FF but I might give Opera another go, since they've made some updates since then

I have both on my computer, but I will never switch until Opera's adblocking improves. It's subpar in comparison. I didn't like any of the themes for opera either. And that sidebar is annoying. I couldn't get it fully gone.

opera's adblocking works fine. I've not had a single popup in years besides those irritating flash popups (I disable some of the irritating jscript functions). also, that sidebar goes away fully, very easily I might add. just disable the toggle button for the panel. I dunno about themes, I just let it use my windows theme

i'm talking about in-site removal of flash and jpegs based upon user defined black lists and white lists.

I've tried the opera adblock hacks to do this and they didn't work or were not nearly as easy as firefox's adblock.

I've been using Opera since maybe my freshman or sophomore year, and I use it almost exclusively for my everyday browsing. Firefox is good too, but at least on my computer, Opera seems to be a little bit faster.

I used to not like the sidebar on the left, but after keeping it there for a while, I realized how convenient it is.

I don't use the newsreader, IRC, mail, or bittorrent capabilities of Opera. I don't really like that all these feature are included in a web browser, but the application is so small, it doesn't bog it down at all.

I like Opera better. It just works. Its super fast off the bat, so you don't have to install any extensions.
Plus you can install themes w/o having to restart the browser which is awesome. The widget selection is pretty weak right now, but it will get better in time. I personally think they should make their own OS. Opera OS FTW!!

I will agree that opera does seem to paint pages faster initially. But there are quite a few quirks that I couldn't deal with.

yeah, I really like Opera also. However the Mac version crashes pretty frequently. Not sure why. Any other Mac users experienced this?

It works great on my Mac, I've never had it crash on me. FF for the Mac, on the other hand, crashes quite frequently and is very slow

In my comparisons opera tended to be smaller, but other people have gotten other results, so it's tough to compare. The program itself, however is a good deal smaller

i've wondered about this too, and a lot of anecdotal evidence has been talked about on here in other threads, with results split pretty even. in the end, i prolly don't care about memory usage that much. at the least, the computers i use have a gig of ram, so browsing isn't typically gonna consume more than i have. as long as it loads quick initially, cycles through tabs quick, and renders at decent pace, it's all the same to me
