Hey All,I wanted to try something new. I would like to start a MCAT Study Group, and DAT, PCAT people are welcome too. If you are interested, facebook me at Yu Matthew Chiu and join "MCAT 45 Club" I figured for those that want to save their $$$ 1500 $$$ by not taking Kaplan or Princeton review we could do that for FREE. The study group will begin fall semester every SATURDAY afternoon (probably at the library) for a few hours. This is how i propose the setup will be like. The group will require that everyone take atleast 1 practice test. Everything you missed, you bring it to the group and we will discuss what the right answer is. We should be BIASED in only doing SCIENCE MATERIAL!!!. Which will place focus on the TEST. So everybody is invited, it is not limited to NCSTATE students, we welcome Chapel Hill, Duke, and etc. We just require you to have transportation to come to STATE. If you are interested please facebook me. O and by the way, i am a biology and chemistry major at NCSTATE and SI'ed for Organic I and II, and will TA for Biochem. I figured with this study group it will boost students in a competitive stance for Professional School. Thank You,Matt Chiu

Sorry i didn't make it clear. We should do Science Only just because we can all work on one thing at a time. Not to say verbal section is worthless, i just felt like it might be worthwhile if we work on science related material first. After we master that, we can work on verbal.

Ignore the verbal reasoning strategy and you're guaranteed to do poorly. From my experience, people's grades fluctuate on the verbal more than anything, so you can really make or break yourself on that section. I took Kaplan and I knew people who fluctuated 4 points from test to test on verbal in no particular order. Was also told by some important medical school admissions people that some schools look harder at verbal than any other section....especially if you did poorly on the science sections because doing well on verbal means you can reason through things that may be unfamiliar....so its easier to teach you the material you need to know for medical school. ^The worst thing was that the month we had off to study for the USMLE was the same time as the ACC/NCAA bball tourneys...My studying took a huuuuge dive because of that.

Wow, i didn't think Verbal was that big of a deal. Then sure this study group can definetly incorporate verbal section too?But overall do you guys think this study group is a good idea???[Edited on July 27, 2006 at 4:33 PM. Reason : .,][Edited on July 27, 2006 at 4:33 PM. Reason : ..]

^^i'm assuming you made the grade though right??assuming so.. who really needs to study? right?? haha(i'm curretly studying for the August MCAT)I'm studying with someone right now, we are summing up chapters and review with each other... via powerpoint, it's working pretty well.. listening to someone else explain it when you know it too can really help solidify the info i think... I don't think doing passages together is helping much, that just seems like something easier for me to do alone.[Edited on July 27, 2006 at 5:33 PM. Reason : sdf]

Made the grade? If you're asking me had i taken the MCAT, no. I was planning on doing so this spring.

A study group sounds like a good idea. The MCAT really sucks and it is very hard to prepare for it. But one of the review courses may not be such a bad idea. The instructors tend to know a lot about the test, what you really need to study. Taking a bunch of practice tests will be probably the biggest help. That test is so long...8 hours.
