Can you give us some more information? What kind of Thinkpad do you have? What type of battery do you have? Model number? It should be printed on the bottom. What model AC adapter do you have? How much % of charge does the Thinkpad say the battery has when the AC adapter is plugged in?How does this change when you unplug the AC adapter? With TWW tech help, higher quality information in ----> higher quality advice out

is there any reason to explain why my battery will not charge past 99%?

Some batteries just won't charge up to 100% no matter what. They're just more chemically challenged. The difference between 99% and 100% is about 10 seconds of battery life... I wouldn't sweat it. But, if it bothers you that much or you need it to be at 100% for some sort of test, then you can try a few of these things:- Let the battery drain all the way down to 0% and then charge it back up- Get a new battery[Edited on September 6, 2006 at 5:13 PM. Reason : omg]

Some machines, by default, stop charging at 99%. This is done to prolong the life of the battery as keeping it charged at 100% the whole time it's plugged in can severely reduce its lifespan.

good answersit's brand new, so age should not be a problem, i just wanted to make sure it was not defective...hovering around 98% now

Yeah, well unless the software changed you can set it to charge to 100%, but doing so will reduce the battery's lifespan considerably for the extra 30 seconds to a minute of battery life.

i saw this today...theres a setting you can change...by default its set to only charge your battery if you go below 96% battery life...for example if i take my laptop into the living room and use it until it has 90% battery life left, itll recharge up to 100% but if i only use 97%, it wont charge it up to 100% until i go below 96%...get it?you can change this but its for the better because youll wear your battery out faster if you do little charges over and over and over...
