you can use open office and save/export as a pdf, that's what i've been using for 2 years or so[Edited on July 25, 2006 at 1:50 PM. Reason : hehe]

Wow I just said foxit in the other thread. ~1 MB, smaller and quicker than adobe (~65 mb). it's awesome.

foxit does the job, i'm just not a fan of the evaluation stamp it puts on there

I don't use acrobat to create pdfs from word documents, there are many free/better programs to do that. I don't really have a need for the full version but I'm well aware of it's capabilities. acrobat pro (for the most part) adds pdf as a recognized document type for the normal editors/productivity suites on your machine and making it just as easily manipulated as a .doc file. there are other features like locking, encrypting, etc, but they're just "extras"
