My camera's battery finally bit the bullet and now I'm trying to find a replacement that doesn't burn a hole (think $70) in my wallet. I don't want an off-brand because, from what I understand, the camera drains them faster than one made specifically for the camera (marketing ploy? Canon users, you tell me). My current battery, fully charged, only lasts for appx 4 pictures. Major GRR! I need a CANON brand (not Canon adaptable off-brand) BP-511A lithium-ion battery for LESS then $70. Everytime I do a google search I come up with adaptable off-brands. Help. My brain is fried

^thanks, but none of those appear to be Canon brand. They are simply Canon-compatible...

did you try ebay?

I looked briefly. I stopped after I got frustrated when I kept coming across batteries that were marketed as Canon, but then, after emailing the seller, I found out they were just off-brands that were compatible with Canon cameras.

But It's a major rip off. Trust me, go to eBay and get an off brand with something like 1600 or 1800mAh. I got two of those and they worked better when new than new Canon branded batteries did. Now I've used those so much, all my batteries have short life, but the off-brand are better and cheaper than the canon brand. I would recommend my batteries, if you can find them on eBay. They're made by Assia and they're 1800mAh.Simply search on eBay for "canon bp511 1800mah" and any of those will do better than spending $50 plus shipping one that has "Canon" written on it.[Edited on July 24, 2006 at 6:27 PM. I bought a battery for my Kodak Easyshare dx7630 on there for a dollar with the charger and $5 shipping - it works great with my camera and works like my regular kodak klic-5001 battery

Same battery form factor but higher capacity so it works in both cameras. Not the cheapest way to get a new OEM battery though.

there is nothing wrong with purchasing an off brand battery.if you are that scared, i'd just go to your local batteries plus or radioshack and buy one for $$$$$.
