I am tryin to find a TV provider and Dish Network, Directv has better HD channels, but do not offer any local channels in HD so I wont be able to watch sports that are on NBC, ABC or FOX in HD, which bothers me. They have a deal goin on at Dish Network for the HD stuff which is pretty cheap but I want DVR too and they charge a $200 fee for the DVR HD reciever plus $12 a month. Time Warner is charging too much for much less than satellite but they have local HD channels and a HD DVR without an outrageous fee. I just want a HD DVR on 1 TV with as many HD channels as possible and local channels HD without paying out the ass for it. Any suggestions or advice or personal experience with any of these companies?

In regards to DirecTV, a lot of people complain about what they refer to as "HD Lite"....basically, DirecTV is compressing their HD channels to the point where its not really HD anymore. If you know someone with DirecTV HD, you should take a look before you go with them. You can also possibly get your locals via OTA if you do go with satellite, or through satellite eventually, but there are two things to consider: you wont get the early HD games of the NCAA tournament since OTA WRAL is SD only the first weekend in order to carry all the games, and Im not sure the HD DVRs used with satellite are dual-tuners like TWC has. Personally, Im sick of TWC considering their lack of adding any channels worth a damn for 2 years running, so Im pretty much ready to jump to Dish, but those two factors are a major negative against satellite for me.

TWC compresses their HD more than directv as far as i've heard. And if you live in Raleigh and I think Charlotte has it now too you can get abc and nbc locals in hd if you have directv's new 5 lnb dish and the h20 receiver.
