I bought this car one year ago and have finally finished restoring it and its time for me to move onto my next project. I am asking $5000 for the car although I have invested much more than that not even counting the hundreds of hours I've spent working on it. Nearly everything is new or has been replaced except for the body. The car runs and drives great, gets 32+ mpg and gets lots of looks. I will list the things I have replaced below, although I may forget a few things. Please contact me at: supernuc1981@gmail.com if interested or you would like more information. I would trust the car to go anywhere as I have driven it several thousand miles this summer, so you are welcome to come drive it if you are truly interested. Thanks. The following link should take you to my photo gallery of the car:http://www.thewolfweb.com/photo_folder.aspx?user=8956If the link doesn't work, just look at the [rgwillia] photo gallery in tww.I just recently (May 2006) had the car repainted Holly Red with the body off of the frame. The car was painted on both the top and underside. Items Replaced/Repaired[b][u] Floor Panels, Shocks front and rear, master cylinder, alternator, brakes, replaced the transmission and swing axles, axle seals, fuel guage sending unit, replaced the engine with a 1.6 liter dual port, new exhaust, chrome air cleaner, chrome belt cover. New Clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Flywheel remachined and resurfaced, steering wheel, belt, new urethane transmission mounts, new EMPI short throw shifter. New tan marine grade vinyl carpet with 2year warranty, new plugs & wires, oil strainer, fuel filter and fuel line, battery, recovered rear seats, new seat covers on front seats. Just changed engine oil and transmission fluid. Gas tank was removed and dipped to remove rust and then repainted. Floor and underbody cover in underbody coating.I have tried to list everything I have replaced although I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things. There is a very small amount of rust on a couple of the wheels but that can probably be polished out. Also, there are a couple of small nicks on the paint on the passenger side into where my friend metal button on his pants chipped it. Other than that the car is great. My contact info is listed above. The car has a valid NC title, is currently licensed, and was recently inspected in May.

how many miles are on the engine?
7/17/2006 9:51:41 PM
I recently bought the engine, and put it in the car. It is out of a 1974 VW beetle and I was told the engine had around 48000 miles on it when I bought it. I've driven a few thousand miles on the engine since I bought it. I cleaned it up and replaced several of the seals (valve cover gaskets, etc) when I bought it along with the new exhaust, plugs, wires, etc. I had considered rebuilding the engine that came with the buggy when I bought it, but it was a 69' 1500cc, and I wanted the more powerful 1600 with the dual port heads. Not to mention the better external oil cooler, vacuum advance distributor, etc that came with that 74 engine. Since I've placed it in the car it has run great.

Post it on the buggy trader at http://dune-buggy.com/forsale/forsale.cgi if you haven't already. It should get a lot of exposure on that site.

Is all the engine tin installed properly? Does it have an alternator or a generator on it? Post engine pics.

IF it's really a '74 engine, it should have the alternator.I have seen some cobbled shit though when it comes to VW stuff. That's why I don't pay that kind of money for it. You never know what the shithead before you left off or installed properly (and yes, that includes doghouse oil coolers, thermostats and flap assemblies, heater hose blockoffs, etc.Even running a couple thousand miles with improper sheetmetal (or less...MUCH less) can lead to cracked heads or dropped valves.Joel done brung up some good points...

Yes all the engine tin is installed properly. The engine has the alternator, not a generator as on the earlier model engines. All of the engine tin surrounding the oil coolers, etc is installed correctly and completely. I didn't take the time to take the body off to replace the engine just to half-ass the job. You can see from the picture of the engine/rear of the car that heater hose blockoffs are in place and are new as I bought them and put them in there when I replaced the engine. For proof that the engine is a 1974 model, the engine id is: AH387486. AH engines were only made in 73 & 74. I am unable to post any more engine pics at the moment as I'm in wilmington for the week and the car is near Raleigh in my shop. If someone is really interested though, they are more than welcome to set up a time to come and see the car and verify all of the information I've stated.
